Maria+Holic, Episode 11- God Defeats Priest

Unfortunately this brings us to the penultimate episode of Maria+Holic. On the other hand it was blessedly hilarious and somewhat insulting to Catholic priests (something I don’t really have a problem with~). Of course it shouldn’t be too unusual that a Catholic priest would go for an underage male right?! Hohohoho.

I knew this episode was going to go in a wonderful direction when the opening scene was a priest talking about falling in love with a trap. And when that trap is Mariya, you know good things would come of it. I was not disappointed.

I can’t blame the man for falling for him/her. As Mariya notes, one cannot help but be entranced by beautiful things, especially when their beauty holds a deep, forbidden truth regarding some family jewels.

Whoa whoa there buddy. Large breasts are unecessary? I’m sorry, but I had respect for you since you fell in love with Mariya, but you are losing ground with such comments. Large breasts are wonderful, Kanako is lovely. As a hot blooded American male I must say, “oppai banzai!”

He’s also an idiot

See the title of this entry, God certainly did defeat the priest this week. God isn’t one of my favorite characters in the show really, but she certainly provided some humor this week. She seems to have quite a few fans however, considering how the voting went on our favorite character poll. I was surprised how many there were.

Like the episode where Kanako had running internal monologues through most of the episode, I was amused by the Father’s ramblings at first, but later soured. After awhile the same gag gets repetitive.

Uh, what?

Ah, such a cleansing aura

Crusader’s Adoration of Kanako

Indeed Kanako is the principle threat to this meddlesome priest’s popularity.

Nice try there Kanae Lyle but Kanako knows exactly what you are.

Sadly Kanako’s normal;ly prodigious strength doesn’t work when in close contact with loser males.

So it seems that Father Kanae is really that no good Lyle in disguise, and while most of the school has yet to identify the threat he poses Mariya and Kanako remain vigilant though Mariya being the oppressor that he is puts poor Kanako in the line of fire when deep down Lyle likes boys dressed as girls after all he is a Dylandy, even if he operates under the alias of Kanae. Poor Kanako maybe capable of uprooting full grown oaks but men are like kryptonite to her and she is rendered powerless, while Sachi is helping out Kanako with homework the vile Lyle assaults Kanako who passes out from the lose and fail. Still it seems the faculty has taken a liking to Kanako as Tonamura sensei and Fumin were annoyed that they could not give Kanako some three way lurvin to revive as the no good false priest was there. Thankfully God is there to keep Lyle from getting out of hand and extorts quite a haul from him, though I would have been happier if God then demanded a PS3 too.

Fat chance the only other person she calls sama is Kanako, and even then…

She has it where it counts priest.

Of course how else could Kanako resist not going to see Tonamura Sensei?

It was a funny episode as I derived limitless joy at watching a Catholic Priest lusting after a boy. The extortion was excellent though what really piqued my curiosity was that Fumin and Tonamura seemed to have been very FRIENDLY I am sure they wanted to something special for Kanako to bring her spirits up. It also seems that Kanako isn’t into onee-sans but seems to be a member of the imouto admiration society, given how Sachi seems to adore Kanako I suppose that Kanako’s specialty is in winning the hearts and minds of the young otome. Still poor Ayarin seems to have entered the line of fire. Ah well once this meddlesome priest is dealt with Thomas Becket style…

It’s called love, apparently…

Sachi you know you want to do it…

Kanako will do anyting, ANYTHING.

NO.

Kanako remembers what happened to Anew.

Who shall rid me of this troublesome priest?

Really who wouldn’t come up with an excuse to see Tonamura everyday?

I love how she talks with her mouthful, it’s so rude to the priest.

Kumatan sensei was annoyed that Lyle was standing in the way of some Kanako lurvin.

I usually have a warrant for those.

She’s so cute when she’s mad.

It’s been a rough episode for Kanako.

Scared Kanako is cute too.

Soon it will all be over Kanako.

Victory!

Yes Kanako requires regeneration.

Indeed 1930 hours is lights out.

Saint Ayarin will rid Kanako of this meddlesome priest…

    And you both miss the obvious problem – Kanako IS a female version of the priest, or the priest is a male version of Kanako, which is why both of them talk to their ‘mother in Heaven’ and said that line about the ‘trial beginning now’ at exactly the same time… That, and Mariya is a lovely bitch for setting up the priest to fail so spectacularly by diverting his attention with Kanako.

    Also worthy of note: Matsurika is actually a telepath who can operate WITHOUT GN particles saturating the area, which is how she intrudes into both Kanako’s and Mariya’s inner monologues, and how she read the priest like an open book. Setsuna F. Seiei, eat your heart out.

    Mariya, Matsurika and GOD were awesome in this episode with their evilness. It’s the duty of any good priest to serve GOD, and serve he did.

    @Haesslich
    Yeah in this episode it seems both Matsurika and Mariya can read people’s minds… What’s up with that?

    TJ: The priest’s thoughts leak out as badly as Kanako’s, which is why Mariya can read him so easily… so that’s not big. The big deal is that Matsurika can butt into Mariya’s thoughts and then comment on them as well. Now that’s a BIG deal.

    Hilarious indeed. Defeated by God and every expensive electronic device in existence, the priest needs to either crossdress or form his own Republic if he wants some trap service.

    So with spring, comes love. I got a little tired of the notes, explaining the analogies and metaphors. Funny, but they got in the way of our Kanako-sama’s screentime to put that priest in his place. Maybe if Mariya can put him in good use, I might forgive and forget.

    Lastly, who needs GN particles, when you can have Matsurika dressed as a maid and go along with every sadistic plan you want?

    @Haesslich
    It seems you were right about him being the male version of Kanako. If he hugged or touched other men, would he get hives too?

    “It’s called love, apparently…”
    lol.

    I liked that this episode had so many jokes in it. The episodes were starting to get a bit too touchy-feely for me (in the case that this is Maria-Holic). But now we get a priest to play with! What fun! ^^

    @soyahoney: THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS. They should make it happen.

    I take back everything I said about Kanako overkilling punchlines. She’s nothing compared to the priest. He was doing it to the point that he had letters coming out of his head.

    one questions why you call the priest Lyle, unless your suggesting he looks like Lyle? personally i don’t see it

    Haha, it’s interesting how Kanako managed to blurt out that she WASN’T a single child (as I thought she was), and had an older AND younger sister when she was angry. Funny how revelations suddenly drop like that.

    And I so agree with the two previous posters. Kanae is like a male Kanako, but without the fear of women causing him to break out in hives. He just over thinks things SO MUCH, it’s hilarious.

    @Haesslich
    Correction the priest it a male version of Kanako, Kanako was here before the priest. I doubt Jihad-kun is interested in women and even if he is he really can’t pick’em.

    @TJ
    Indeed the minors seemed to be out in force this time.

    @soyahoney
    I don’t think Jihad-kun would tolerate a female presence.

    @catface210
    Only one more to go…

    @Baka-Raptor
    President Kanako accepts your surrender. :P

    @Tenryu
    Same hair cut, avoidance of women, lusting after Innovators of questionable gender, and losing to ALMIGHTY GOD…sounds like Lyle to me. :P

    @Myssa Rei
    Indeed it was odd how Kanako also blurted out hints that she’s into imoutos as well…

    This episode was down right hilarious, the second a guy fell in love with a trap I knew it’d be good. Favorite line in this entire episode would have to be “Dawg how you doin?!?” Not only is the priest handsome (as stated by Mariya, and who dares to defy Mariya’s word) but apparently he’s hip to boot.

    Crusader: Kanako’s into EVERY fetish when it comes to girls. Meganekko (Kiri), imouto-types (Sachi), onee-sama types (Inamori), hot teachers (Kumatan), elegant ojou-sama types (Ayari), motherly types (Natsuru)… about the only type she isn’t into is children, or at least not in a sexual way. She just likes looking at them… and the priest is staff, so was there before Kanako, since he’s known well enough by the other students. Matsurika’s still a telepath, and better than Jihad-kun for not needing GN particles to do her thing.

    Myssa: I think the thought-bubbles on screen add just the right amount of over-the-topness to his character. Annoying as hell when he inserts quotes into scenes, but it’s still funny.

    Good analysis of Kanae = Lyle and Matsurika > GN Particles from 00 Gundam. I loved Kanae for the first half, and hated his rambling dialogues for the second half. Tchaikovsky Syndrome in B Minor (opus 74) was a pretty funny moment for me, but that might just be because I play a classical instrument.
