Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Episode 9- Sad Boy In Armor

fma9

Personally, I much prefer sad girls in snow to a sad boy in armor. Emo+lack of fighting=boring episode when you’ve already seen the melodrama before. I like that there was a lot of Winry, but other than that the episode was pretty forgettable. It was one of those inbetweener episodes after something exciting happened and before something else exciting/imporant is supposed to happen (Huuuuuuuughes!). At least the gags and humor parts didn’t seem too wildly out of place in the first 2/3 of the episode since the overall tone was more lighthearted. And for the love of god, could they stop with those really awful “Fullmetal Alchemist!” Engrish voice overs in the splash screens.

Ugh, I thought Winry’s flashback scene could’ve been really great, really powerful. But unfortunately, I was too busy still laughing at the ill-timed silly Alphonse face during his dramatic confrontation with Edward.

All I noticed was how poor Hughes was a bit stiff and off-model in his animation this episode… I guess they are saving budget for the next?

(I wonder how attached the new fans are to Hughes this time around? Series 1′s Hughes was a much more prominent figure…)

You said it. The first one was especially bad.

Overall the episode was better than I thought it’d be, because I forgot that Al doesn’t run away in the manga.

I was surprised that Al’s depression ended in one ep. It felt like forever in the manga.

oh my god. the english voiceovers during the splashes! make them stop!
other than that I am liking “Brotherhood” more than the first anime. I think they’re doing a good job of capturing the spirit of the original manga.

    nice reviews/info on this site!

The parts where the characters become really chibi when there’s a non-serious part really annoys me. It feels really forced, and bland since they do it ALL THE TIME D:
