I really do apologize for being so late with this I had to work 13 hour days for Uncle Sam and have been largely overwhelmed as of late, still my dear Uncle Sam is not without mercy and has seen fit to grant me enough liberty to gorge myself on a bunch of Mazinger Z episodes. I just love this show to pieces, even if it’s not the prettiest thing out there at least it just keeps cranking out the awesomeness at a steady pace without slowing for very long and even when you think you are getting into a dip something cool happens. Even if Baron Ashura is no longer kicking Mazinger Z in the face and has been relegated to whipping boy after Tsubasa-sama declared to the Baron THAT SHE WAS HIS/HER MOTHER, at least the Baron deserves a round of applause for playing a very believable detective. Infiltrating the whole town as the police was definitely sneaky though they need to take a page from the Guild of Calamitous Intent and get better clean up crews to fix their bloody messes. Unlike Gundam this series isn’t shy with the bodies and floors that are slick with human blood. Other than Kouji’s little brother and the three stooges it seems that almost every one is awe some in some way I like how Ankokuji was able to beat up that group of guys that caught him napping.

It was an interesting way to do the background of the principle foes, though I want to see how Blocken ended up with a floating head and how Pygman seems to actually have cunning and not just clones. As I said Baron Ashura deserves and award for pulling off a believable Ankokuji while threatening Kouji in a cell. At least for now it seems the Sayaka and the rest of the Mazinger Army have yet to show their stuff as it has been a weapons demonstration of Mazinger Z for the most part now. Still good to know that after Tsubasa gattai-ed Baron Ashura that the Baron totally went balls to the wall insane and started attacking everything. I did very much enjoy Pygman poking out his eyes to defeat his foe, now that is dedication seldom seen in mecha these days, hell the sissy Lockon Mk I could only put out one of his eyes and he needed Patrick to volunteer him to so it. I found Pygman trying to be Kamina to be funny as well when trying to motivate Baron Ashura, if Baron Ashura is lucky maybe he/she will score big like Patrick “the Immortal Lucky” Colasour, and marry his/her other half. While there has been plenty of manservice for this series and a subset of mecha service too, it seems they also went nuts with the real introduction of Gamia Q3, or as Ankokuji would call her Mai Hunni. I suppose it counts as mecha-service as well as Kyu, Kyu, Kyu…Q-chan is probably mechanical, and if so it seems Ankokuji seems fated to be a lucky bastard. I can’t wait to see how the Kurogane House 5 will fuck Kouji up for getting cocky, while Mazinger Z can never lose Kouji sure can…

It was fun and exciting to go through this post. the show just keeps getting better and better. i disagree that aphrodai is absolutely useless. she gets slightly more useful every episode. just slightly!
Happy to see you warming up to Mazinger even more. If you like the nuttiness Imagawa’s churning out (which is amazingly different from the nuttiness he made with G Gundam), you’ll just loooove when he gets all srs bsns with Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Despite having a bathhouse as a location in the series, they sure took their time with putting in some actual fanservice. But then again, it was worth the wait, I mean, TRIPLETS! If I were animated, I would have nosebled to death by now.
One thing I though, since Baron
AsiaAshura has previously referred to them as its daughters, does that make them Tsubasa’s granddaughters?On a more serious note, anyone else other than me feel like the first part of episode 9 was Imagawa deconstructing the usual super robot trope of having the hero simply defend the base from attack by the bad guys?
