When the great Prince Ali called for a new uprising against the hated Azadistani occupier, one man answered the call to arms against the regime of Marina “Couch Potato” Ismail, …EO, Engineering Officer ExecutiveOtaku (added by Crusader)
Introductions are in order
I sing of blogging and a man about to blog
Greetings to all the readers of THAT and a gracious thank you to the other writers and admins for giving me this opportunity. I go by the name of ExecutiveOtaku (EO for short) a reader and fan of the site for around a year and a half and am now privileged to be joining the writing team here at THAT. I will be starting off my blogging here by covering Sora no Manimani this season, and perhaps picking up another series or retroblogging an old series as I begin to get a feel for how much time I’ll need to allocate per series and hopefully develop my own style of writing my entries.
What I would like to bring to you, the readers as a writer here is:
- Regular content: I promise to be timely in my updates of the show(s) I have chosen to cover.
- Occasional editorials or thoughts on different aspects of anime and the anime community as I experience it.
- Developing my own style with your input: I have kept a livejournal for several years, but this is the first time I’ve written for others besides my friends. I look forward to the fun and challenge of blogging here and will definitely appreciate your feedback and recommendations as I begin to find my footing.
- Have fun and try new things: In the future perhaps pick up a series I might not think I’d enjoy, try blogging a series in live-blogging style, cooperate with other writers, and generally try to produce fun and interesting posts for the readers.
As this our first meeting, I’d like do a quick introduction. While I watched a few anime movies when in middle school, I really got into anime in early high school with the advent of both early Midnight Run/Adult Swim and the (rather late) arrival of broadband to my little town in the middle of nowhere. Genre-wise I tend to like a bit of an odd mix of anime, from mecha to otaku ‘in joke’ series to jousei to space opera to romantic comedies. Some of my favorite series include Honey and Clover, 08th MS Team, Lucky Star, FLCL, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Code Geass, Toradora, Cowboy Bebop, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Aside from anime, I’m currently a graduate student of international security in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, having double-majored in International Relations and Japanese as an undergrad. My other studies and interests include history, sci-fi, cars, computer and video games, miniatures wargaming, travel, cooking, and film
I think I was trying to suggest something about the duality of my tastes in anime, sir
In conclusion, I look forward to blogging here at THAT and to hearing your feedback as I jump into the world of anime blogging. よろしくおねがいします。

Good sir, I await your further posts with great anticipation…
Would you be presenting editorials with the Crusader Gunsou in the future?
Also good choice on Miyuki x Zaku (but why not Char’s?)
Awesome Mikuru with Zaku II dance pic. Welcome! I’ll look forward to the retro shows you write about. Make me remember love. ^_^
Argh typo, Takara Miyuki is what I meant, been watching the same episode of Endless 8 over and over, oh I haven’t? ^_^;
@ Kherubim:
Thanks for the welcome! I’d definitely be up for editorials with Crusader and the other writers some time. I’m already planning my first solo one on the topic of empires in anime and how their portrayal relates to Japan’s historical experiences with other empires and being one for a time. Look for it once I’m caught up to the current episode post of Sora no Manimani.
I chose the standard Zaku II because I’ve always been more interested in the common pilot’s MS than the more powerful one-of-a-kind types. Mass production and customized mass production units always capture my imagination more than super-powered prototypes. Once I realized that Miyuki and the Zaku were about the same size and had open hand attachments, I couldn’t not set up the picture, hehe.
@ghostlightning:
Ah typos happen. Thanks for the welcome too! As for retro series, I’ve drawn up a list of possibilities. Top contenders are watching for the first time Maison Ikkoku or rewatching years after first seeing them, Outlaw Star or Martian Successor Nadesico. But this may not be for a little bit, I don’t want to take on too much right at the start.
Pittsburgh graduate students in da house!
@Kabitzin:
GSPIA what what! Which school do you
buy your thousands of dollars in crippling debt fromstudy in?Wow! A new blogger to stalk. Looking forward to it.
Greetings to you!
and the another one bites the trap… i mean, a willing victim tripped the trap…
whatever the case… A very interesting spread you’ve got there.
It is nice to see someone new on board THAT team. Looking forward to your posts!
Ooh, fresh blood. Welcome!
Good luck with the writing, looking forward to read more from you.
I take it that you’re one of crusader’s vassals? His strenght is growing, this si suspicious. Perhaps His lordship covets the Green Loli’s throne?
@ 13sugars:
Nice to meet you. I look forward to writing and, apparently, being stalked
@Ron Bailey, KaeBoo, Myu and Nemo:
Thank you all for the welcome!
@ZI:
My only allegiance is to the THAT nation. I do not engage in such petty court politics!
This is, of course, a facade, for when the inevitable court turmoil happens I will let all factions exhaust themselves while remaining ‘neutral’, then use my resources to declare myself emperor for ‘the good of the people’ while accumulating unrivaled power and wealth.
But don’t tell anyone.
“Some of my favorite series include Honey and Clover, 08th MS Team, Lucky Star, FLCL, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Code Geass, Toradora, Cowboy Bebop, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes.”
Any other mecha series you are interested in? Macross, perhaps? Would love to see some retro blogging of that franchise.
Anyways…Welcome! I’ll be looking forward to your write ups.
@grss1982
Macross is an idea since it would be new to me. The only Macross I’ve watched in its entirety is Macross Frontier, and I’ve only seen the first 5 or 6 episodes of the original series. I’ll keep that in mind.
Some of my favorite series include Honey and Clover, 08th MS Team, Lucky Star, FLCL, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Code Geass, Toradora, Cowboy Bebop, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
you’re not me are you?
Glad to see you blogging. Thank you for contributing your thoughts and creativity. I look forward to seeing what you do. Feeling inclined to blog a little on the new Zetsubou Sensei season? Welcome and may Oyashiro Sama bless you.
Outlaw Star is a great classic. Another suggestion to retroblog should be Trigun or any of those ones on Adult Swim that never got a rerun like Wolf’s Rain for example. I haven’t seen it, but I just decided to watch Honey & Clover after reading volume 1 of it and listening to the soundtrack, and I can’t believe I completely missed the boat on this one by 2 years. Yeah, the days of Toonami/old Adult Swim were the best. Nice “giant” Miyuki side by side with a mech. It’s good to have tastes that is varied and different from each other. I look forward to your posts and retros, EO!
@ anonymous:
Perhaps we are separated twins, raised by rivals clans and destined to one day angstily face each other on the field of battle!
@ Okugi:
Thank you for the encouragement! Though as much as I love SZS, I chose not to blog it because since it doesn’t really have a plot (not that it needs one) I felt that any posts I did would just be reiterating the jokes and references and that would be boring for readers.
@ EX-Keine:
Good to see another convert to the Holy Gospel of Honey and Clover! I’ve introduced it to and made huge fans out of several of my friends. It’s simply an outstanding series that has everything covered: story, cinematography, use of music, characters, art, conveying emotion, and realism. Thanks for the welcome!
*sees picture of Zaku with Lucky Star girl*
hmm, this could be interesting.
