When I made my introductory post I mentioned the possibility of retroblogging an old series. So I figured if I’m going to watch and blog an old series, it should be a really old series. Thinking about this and hearing a few suggestions from readers, I’ve narrowed it down to three series and I’ll let you, the readers choose. I’ve only seen the first 2-3 episodes of each, so please no spoilers in the comments sections. Have your say in the poll behind the cut. On Monday afternoon I’ll look at the results and go with the series with the most votes.
- Maison Ikkoku – Comedy/romance written by Rumiko Takahashi about a boarding house inhabited by several odd people while the protagonist attempts to pass the college entrance exams and begins falling for the building manager. It’s just so darn likable I’m going to be watching it even if I’m not blogging it.
-SDF Macross – A classic that I’ve never seen but hear so much of. Earth is threatened by the alien Zentradi and the only thing in their way is a rebuilt crashed alien space carrier, its compliment of mecha-fighter craft, and…singing?
-Uchyuu Senkan Yamato – Space Battleship Yamato aired in 1978 and supposedly began the modern concept of anime. Earth has been turned into a barren, radioactive wasteland by conquering aliens except for the few remaining underground cities. The Yamato is built with advanced technology to take the fight to the enemy and find a cure for the poisoning of Earth’s atmosphere.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Definitely Yamato.
Why not both SDF Macross (along with Do You Remember Love) and Space Battleship Yamato?
Yamato! Listen to the comments, not the votes.
PS I’ve never seen it, but hey…
Yamato, it’s really great.
And it aired in 1974-75.
UUUCCHHHHHUUUUU SEEENNNKAAAAANNNN YAAAAAMAAAAATOOOOO!!!
Also an MST3K of SDF Macross once in a while too…
I’m a Macross whore so that got my vote.
Clearly I am in the minority but Maison Ikkoku would be cool. One of my favourite series.
SDF Macross!!!
Maison Ikkoku for me. It is one of the best series I have ever watched
and it will be interesting to see it blogged.
SDF Macross for sure. It got me started in anime and it is such a classic.
Ah SDF Macross would be good – I have it sitting in a corner and keep meaning to watch it.
SDF Macross is a must. Reminds me of an era when you saw something totally new on the TV, not like the recycle/reboot mania we have today…
Haven’t watched Maison Ikkoku.
SDF Macross
@ everyone:
Wow, I’m really happy to see the turnout for the voting and comments. And I can feel the love for the different series. Maison Ikkoku and SDF Macross are running neck and neck, and Yamato is behind but certainly not out at this point.
Your exercising of democracy would make Yang Wenli proud. Keep it up, polls open until Monday afternoon!
You should blog all three!
Out of the three, I think I’ve only seen Macross (probably as part of Robotech).
Why not do them all? It could be a serial thing.
For the love of my Misa ♥, SDF Macross! >8D
Macross, hands down.
Good choices
One of the series listed here and another relatively old anime are on my blogging schedule too
SDF Macross, because this was the series that hooked me to anime. Well the Macross saga of Robotech to exact was the series that got me hooked to anime. I’ve had SDFM in my computer now for over a year and I’m still at episode 10.
