I wonder if Alphard's gonna gun for Crusader after she reads this.

I guess personal negotiations with her won't help. XD

Well to each his own, though if you live long enough you might find out how fickle fate can be. Certainly fate isn't kind to everyone.

Well, I didn't really mean the wish for anarchism or getting out of government.

As far as daily life goes, I have no strong feelings against paying my due fees to whoever manages the land/area. Government is more or less required for order, which to me is required for a decent life. I'm not sure about the concept and system of nations, and I'm not well read enough on that to make an educated opinion on that.

But I can't say there is a particular government or nation in the world for whose sake I would go to war for. I just don't feel that strongly towards a piece of land, ideology, or an organization of government. Not even for the defense of it, much less for its national interests. Or essentially, I'm a person that'd run, or draft dodge, soooo fast, if at all possible. That's of course not particularly possible, in the case of a world war, but thankfully (?) in the nuclear age, that isn't really a reality, and wars really only exist either by proxy, between non-nuclear country, or where only one has nuclear ability. So conceivably, a war where I can't just haul ass and live on some other chunk of land and under some other set of ideological values, doesn't exist, until we progress enough for there to be a war between planetary bodies, or Earth and space colonies, or something. It can't be helped if it's against hostile aliens, of course.

With that in mind, since I'll probably be long dead before that's even on its first step towards being possible.

I have to admit though, I'm fairly thankless. And philosophically, I can't say the idea of meaning has much meaning to me. So I guess I'm pretty much exactly what you talk about.

That said, I'm also actually pretty comfortable leaving things to fate. It's always been fairly good to me.

@Marigold Ran
Perhaps one day the spate of damsels in distress will cause a dynamic shift in the opposite direction as there seem to be an increase of women saving men in western comics.

@ToastCrust
One could live life for the sake of living, but I am of the opinion that we ought to try an leave this world a bit better than we found it.

Simply declaring yourself as a citizen of the world isn't really going to accomplish much regardless of how you feel about it you are tied to your nation of residence. You pay taxes and you cannot escape the decisions that the rest of your fellow citizens (or if you are unlucky your President for Life) decide upon. Government is inescapable, you could try and eke it out in Antarctica, but even there they will find you. The only place without government is Somalia and to be honest it's not a place where most people would want to be right now. You can either live in a formal state or become stateless which imparts a whole new set of problems.

I'll say this much if you feel no civic ties to your government then I hope you get use to leaving your fate in their hands. A united humanity is very far off the way I see it, you can't just isolate yourself either as nothing gets government angry drunk as people not paying taxes. They will find you and they will make you pay one way or the other. It's not like the good old days when you could just disappear and become a pirate in the age of sail.

What about those who live for life itself?

Or more importantly, those who draw no important affiliation to any nation?

1. It's quite moral for the middle class to dodge the draft, at least from their point of view. Because they had more money spent on them, they believe they have more value. Therefore they believe they should stay out of the draft and let less valuable people take their place. Selfishness is a moral too, though it is a moral that pisses others off.

2. Most selfish people don't like to think of themselves as selfish. Hence they lie to others and to themselves. "I am a conscientious objector" is one of those lies. Some people are true objectors, but they are rare.

3. The only manga/anime I've seen with a strong female character, AND romance without the yuri is the manga "Kare Kano." Hinano should read it and write a review. I believe that if she does so, she will become happier. I would also like to see her opinions on it.

I am sure there are more, but still it is quite rare to see a woman really hold her own and have no equal. I think What Hinano wanted was ass kicking plus romance, that I am afraid is even more rare.

@ToastCrust
It may or may not exist but for me if I pretend it is there then it makes the show more enjoyable for me. Nevertheless even without it Canaan still delivers on the action. Still you have to admit Liang Qi is certainly different from the rest.

@tomtw
True there are conscientious objectors, but I have seen very few such people more often than not I just meet people who rather live for nothing than fight for something. Where I live there is no draft though for a time the prevailing fear was that there was going to be one, which in itself was irrational. Still the mere thought of it exposed those who I hold in contempt as cowards. Even if one does dodge the draft some poor bastard has to take his place. Those who can afford to dodge the draft are often middle class to the rich, so even if they object morally it ain't very moral either to let some poor bastard who can't afford to runaway take the heat.
