Well that certainly is a different kind of R&R…
So my sorry ass has been put under the tender loving care of JMB and that means I have less time to fanboy Sawako and her first SATURDAY NIGHT of her high school years. So after the glorious defeat of Vichy-tan’s Girl bully thrust it was time for Sawako take a bit of R&R after doing a “backhand blow” of her very own. Yosiada wants to have a Ramen Revenge and seems to have a penchant for ranting about ramen. Sawako seems to like rants and it was a fairly innocent night though it seems Yoshida and Ryuu have a very complicated relationship and history. I hope that it will come out more later, but for now it seems Yano had her own fun trolling Kazehaya while feeling up Sawako and making the “gentlemen” fume with indignation. Kazehaya gets the honor of escorting her home. Fortunately it seems that Mii-chan smiles upon them and gifts them with a gorgeous DELICIOUS DECULTCHA night sky to admire. The forboding continues however as Kazehaya start feeling unjustified hatred towards Yano and Yoshida for building up skinship with Sawako. At least for now Ryuu demonstrates proper manly behavior in his dealings with Yoshida whom he sent off blushing…
At any rate since I am stuck doing training for a long time I’ll leave it to EO to carry on this series while I take the secondary role. With any luck I will have more down time later so it’s not too much of a rush.
EO’s Unadulterated Adoration of Sawako
After the intense conflict of the past few episodes, this time we get a well deserved break. Seriously, the past few weeks have really put me on edge, expecting the next attack to follow quickly on the heels of the first. But it’s alright cause it’s Saturday night. This episode there are so many happy Sawako moments as she hangs out with her friends that it almost made be forget the trauma of recent events. Still, we must remain ever vigilant to those who would seek to harm our Sawako and her refreshing way of life. We also got to know Ryuu better this time, and I have to say he’s a man after my own heart. Witty commentary and comebacks, joking yet subtly honest hints to Chizu, and he even saves time and hassle with his choice of hairstyle. And by looking through old yearbooks, a fine form of open source intelligence (OSINT), the allies finally have a name to put to the face of the Vichy-tan threat: Kurumi. But thoughts of future confrontations recede into the background as we get some Sawayakyaaaa-worthy moments of Kazehaya and Sawako walking home together, Kazehaya’s flimsy pretense for walking with Sawako only serving to make the couple even cuter.
No ‘cooking moe’ for our Sawako! Her skills are many and varied.
The red telephone just rang! This is it people, this is the day we’ve trained for! Go to FRIENDCON level 1!
OH GODS THE CUTE!
Precisely! Even Miyamoto Musashi only went through 60 duels. 99 has got him beat by more than 50%.
Now with a name and a proper mugshot the manhunt can begin! Last episodes’ defeated were merely her pawns!
Ryuu’s commentary is propelling him to ‘great secondary character’ status.
Good man! I too rock the ‘bozu’/buzzcut for its simplicity and lack of maintenance.
EO’s DAAAWWWW of the week: the subtle smile as Kazehaya enters.
Getting along so well now that they have the chance.
Practicing her Gendo pose.
Beautiful shot of the cute couple set against the Milky Way.
Watercolor effect backgrounds, astronomy, and lots of empty space. It’s like they made this shot just for me!
EO’s Scramble to Finish the Post
Things being hectic for Crusader lately, I’ll be taking over primary duty for Kimi ni Todoke until further notice. Hopefully things will settle down for him and he can return to lead the posts, but until then I’ll do my utmost to bring you continued coverage, dramatic military-historical interpretations, and undying adoration of Sawako. With that said, I’d like to get this post out the door tonight so it doesn’t get too far behind schedule. As such my extra coverage will be a little brief this time (basically just expanding on my secondary comments/screencaps section.) So here’s a quick recap in images.
Sawako’s mom has perfected her teasing face.
Sawako already sees their potential and wishes the future happy couple well.
Sawako’s fear is certainly understandable, but once she conquers it she shall be all the stronger for it.
Kazehaya was in such a hurry to get to hang out with Sawako he started to see time.
Doing some MGS-style avoidance of Pin.
Inside Kazehaya finds himself attacked on two fronts.
Short people got no reason…
Hmm, expert level tease-hint combo, or Ryuu being tsundere?
Kazehaya is still working on his Tytania contemplation pose, but with time he may get there.

;__;
And I was sooo waiting for Crusader’s summary of this episode…
Not that EO’s didn’t give me fun while reading, especially Kurumi’s profile part made me LOL. Kurumi is not her given name, though.
Right i’ll try something new to add to this post.
First of all and most importantly. My insane complot theory.

Am i just seeing things. No way right. Or maaaybe…
2ndly the obvious 2ndary couple route
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/3413/rpdsveryobviouscomplott.gif
And also the hilarious kazehaya does not approve lesbian action.
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/1803/rpdslesbianloving1.gif
it’s all hosted on imageshack. don’t know if that will work well. but hey this is a first so i’ll see if this works

Since when is awaiting moderation turned on?

Crusader’s are some pretty big shoes, well maybe boots would be more appropriate, to fill, but I’ll try my best starting out from the next episode’s post. Hopefully he’ll still have time amidst all his training and such to give you his unique take on the episodes to come.
I wasn’t certain if Kurumi was her given name or not, it just sounded a bit more like one. It is of no matter because the next wanted poster with the bounty on her head clearly listed will simply correct this error! Wanted dead or alive, preferably the former.
@ random passing dude
Lol, very nice. I especially liked the last one with Kazehaya’s long stare at the end. I think we were supposed to be suspicious of Pin and Yano, but I’m not convinced at the moment. But I guess we’ll see as time goes on.
On the moderating thing, it’s kind of annoying so I’ll see if I can change the current system. It’s not on all the time, but the awaiting moderation catches a LOT of people’s comments for some reason. Ever since the site redesign it’s been doing this.
Ah I just love how this episode reflects the norms of the modern teenage lifestyle. Spending time with friends and enjoying each other’s company. Love how Yano teased Kazehaya at one point and the ending was really nice.

WARNING WARNING WARNING
IMMINENT ATTACK IMMINENT ATTACK
VICHY-TAN has made contact with Kazehaya and begun targeting Sawako. Currently in Observation mode, but future revelations have shown initial contact and assult between VICHY-TAN and Sawako.
I am only a few episodes into this series and I’m loving it … great smiles all around
@Crusader Good luck sorting stuff out
Lemme tell ya’ll about this motherfucker Ryu right here.
The thing you have to understand about Ryu is that he wandered into this shoujo by accident. He’s from the sports manga down the hall, where he’s the heart and soul of the baseball team; the stoic ace the other members rely on completely. When they have a mental block, he breaks it with a few nonchalant words. When it’s a tied game in the ninth inning, he splinters a bat sending the ball through the sky, expression never changing. When the team from the delinquent school corners them after the match, Ryu puts their captain in the hospital.
He considers the shoujo drama and misunderstandings pretty silly, but he has a heartwarming romantic subplot with his childhood friend Delinquent-girl, so he mostly lets it slide.
This also explains Pin-sensei. He’s hilarious comic relief in Ryu’s manga, Blazing Bat, but in shoujo he’s completely out of his element and keeps fucking things up.
As Kimi Ni Todoke is filled with sparkles and bubbles, so Blazing Bat is filled with speedlines and firey battle auras.
The titular “Blazing Bat” is Ryu’s signature move. He raises his left leg, like a pitcher, and kicks forward just before he swings, whipping his body forward and imparting extra speed to the bat. This places enormous strain on his leg and back, and in chapter 9 he injures himself and has to be sidelined for two games. Delinquent-girl makes him promise not to use the technique again; doctors say he could permanently damage his spine, and possibly paralyze his legs. But with the match against the hated Black Tigers coming up, can Ryu hold back? Or will the hot-blooded junior teammate he constantly fights with earn his respect and learn Ryu’s Swing of Swings, the BLAZING BAT?
This will never be explicitly stated in Kimi Ni Todoke; it will just occur as background to relationships and MISUNDERSTANDINGS. You gotta read between the lines, connect the dots. Like, Sadako and Refreshing-kun go on a group date with everyone to watch the big game, but you only get occasional glimpses of what’s happening on the field. They’re staring at each other, sparkles and bubbles, and in the background you hear the announcer screaming “He’s raising his leg! It’s the rumored forbidden technique, the Blazing Bat!”
Currently, Ryu has embarked upon a training schedule that would kill a lesser man, in order to toughen himself enough that his Swing of Swings won’t cripple him. That’s the schedule the Pin sent him, and that’s why he always sleeps in class. When he stopped to give Delinquent advice, he was in the middle of a 40 km run, with weights under his tracksuit. No one’s caught on to what he’s putting himself through, because he’s stoic as hell and does not give a fuck.
wow, just wow
wow, just wow
@ Cherubium
Going to watch and blog episode 08 as time permits, parents visiting for Thanksgiving so I might not get the chance until Friday or Saturday. I knew she was up to something!
@ forEvil
Quite possibly the best show of this season! Glad you’re enjoying it.
@ Shin
Amazing! Goes along with your alternate interpretation of Kobato.
i looked for that alternate interpretation. Permalink anyone? glares at eo

I loved this episode, but I just know that there’ll be drama again. Why can’t they just give us a nice show where Sawako is happy and adorable and Ryuu is hilarious? I for one would tune into that every week.
My favorite part (aside from Ryuu stuff and the great bit with Sawako’s parents at the beginning) was how grumpy Kazehaya got with Sawako got stolen away for cuddles. I wish there had been a better shot of him there. That would’ve made a great image macro.
@ random passing dude
Shin’s entry is here: http://www.atalude.net/2009/10/22/the-emancipation-of-hanato-kobato/
@ Mandi
Haha, as would I. Though the drama does give me a chance to let the hate flow through me when Sawako’s enemies appear.
Hahah, kaze got cockblocked lol, take that super popular perfect guy!!
The FBI bit on Kurumi is just instant win. Talk about using the powers of THAT for the sake of good and justice. Nice job placing her birth in the eighth circle of hell, haha.
@ FaS
It’s indeed amusing to see him get his feathers ruffled, hehe.
@ Flareknight
Hehe, I used the Osama bin Laden FBI poster as the source and then added her info. Eighth Circle of Hell being the one for deceivers, so it seemed like a natural place for her to have originated from.
