Kimi ni Todoke episode 16 – After Action Report

SENSITIVE INTELLIGENCE REPORT – RESTRICTED DISSEMINATION

SUBJECT: 1. REVIEW OF PAST EVENTS AND ACTION FROM FIRST YUUKA PROXY ATTACK TO CURRENT CEASEFIRE.

DATE: LATE JANUARY 2010

1. AS THE CURRENT SITUATION HAS STABILIZED SOMEWHAT, HEADQUARTERS HAS ORDERED PAST REPORTING TO BE CONDENSED FOR REVIEW BY SENIOR ALLIANCE MEMBERS TO PREPARE FOR FUTURE EVENTUALITIES. A RUN THROUGH OF PAST EVENTS MAY BE REPETITIVE, BUT IT HAS BEEN ORDERED AND THUS WILL BE MADE. THE EVENTS THAT BEGAN THIS FALL HAVE LED TO AN ENTIRELY NEW AND MORE FAVORABLE SITUATION FOR ALLIED FORCES, AND SURELY MANY CHALLENGES LIE AHEAD.

Since this was a rather traditional style of recap episode, there is not a great deal to talk about this week. The one original element of the show was the little men that live in Pin’s filthy apartment, now celebrating the recent victory of Sawako and the Sawayakyaaa Alliance in true oyaji style. Toasts are made and memories recalled from the very beginning of the series. Honestly there isn’t much there this time, and I often wonder why anime companies even make recap episodes other than as filler. Perhaps one would be warranted if this were a much longer series, but I honestly believe that recap episodes are entirely unnecessary in series shorter than 52 episodes, if even then. Reminding the audience of what happened in previous episodes can be done much more effectively if the reminders are just broken down into small bits and scattered among normal episodes leading up to the point of their relevance. But enough of my criticism of recap episodes. This time a very brief post, but the preview does promise some great events for next time as everyone gets some time off from classes.

Crusader will be taking the week off since there’s little to add the the chronicles of the Record of Kazehaya War this week. All the more time for him to save humanity in Mass Effect 2.

ExecutiveOtaku’s Unadulterated Adoration of Sawako and Current Intelligence Report

Sawako at the beginning, initially more feared than loved. Still, I kind of miss horror movie Sawako sometimes.

The first meeting and one of the first DAAWWW moments.

The Alliance assembles for the first time, mere days before the first enemy attack would baptize them by fire.

As the true enemy revealed herself, the malice and hatred for True Love and Friendship in her heart shown in her eyes, as dark as the blackest depths of Tartarus.

Though in the end all her hatred and vile trickery was not enough, all her plans fell apart and all was revealed by Ayane.

With Sawako and Kazehaya now sure enough of their feelings to tell others, the future is bright indeed.

The box says ‘rental’, but exactly what kind of rental places cover their boxes to hide the title so thoroughly, hmmm Pin? Nice apartment by the way, I don’t think the little men are the only things living in that trash heap.

Recap episodes are rarely that interesting, but next week promises plenty of fun and sweet times for all.

Kazehaya and Sawako taking a walk under a beautiful starlit sky? I can’t wait!

“All the more time for him to save humanity in Mass Effect 2.”

It’s only at most about a 30 hour game. So it shouldn’t take him too long… I think. And if he’s playing a completely goody goody, it’s not only saving humanity, but all sentient life in the galaxy.

    @ Didtav

Even though there’s not much to say this week, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Next week is going to be sweet judging by that preview.

Not sure how he’s playing it, just that he’s been really into it since it came out. I need to get my hands on the first one and play it and then move on to 2, it’s one of those games that looked great but I never got around to playing yet.

I highly recommend playing them. Mass Effect is just epic Sci-Fi. The only thing it’s missing is mecha, so it’s not perfect.

Finished one play through already here, loved it. And now thinking about how to play the second time around.

As soon as I saw that this was a recap episode, I stopped watching and switched to the slightly less dull Katanagatari…

Really, I.G.? Did you need to make one at episode 16? Having had the misfortune to suffer that which was Seed: Destiny, I would have prefer something else, like a parody sequence or a post-party dream…

    @ Kherubim

I was actually thinking about SEED Destiny (which has elements I absolutely love and ones I absolutely hate) a lot when I was writing about recap episodes and their style. Destiny had both good and bad examples of recap episode techniques. It’s been a while since I watched it so the exact details are kind of fuzzy, but I know one recap episode had commentary and scenes from a character that wasn’t prominent in those events, so it gave the episodes a perspective that was actually new to the viewer. I remember being impressed by that aspect, but still annoyed whenever a recap episode came up. Honestly I think they should never really be made, reminders can be added to regular episodes and do animation companies really think that fans have that bad of memories?

Well, even a recap or filler episode can be entertaining if it’s told in a manner of a parody, for example imagine a wierd dream of Vichy-tan…

Involving her as the heroine (yeah right, snort) whose one true love is abducted by an evil witch who has enspelled everyone in the kingdom and has two servants, an ogre (Chizu) and a dragon (Yano). Set to the classic 80′s ambient music of Tangerine Dreams, Vichy-tan rides across the kingdom and encounters many strange characters such as Ryu. Finally reaching her goal, she distracts the ogre and the dragon and escapes the clutches of the evil sorceress with her one true love…

      who turns out to be…

Pin in a white tux and sparkles… :D
