Kimi ni Todoke episode 22 – Tis the Season

SENSITIVE INTELLIGENCE REPORT – RESTRICTED DISSEMINATION

SUBJECT: SUCCESSFUL SAWAKO-KAZEHAYA GIFT EXCHANGE DESPITE INTERNAL INTERFERENCE.

DATE: MID MARCH 2010 (LATE DECEMBER 2009)

CHRISTMAS MEETING WAS ORGANIZED AND ASSEMBLED BY KAZEHAYA INVOLVING ALL MEMBERS OF THE SAWAYAKYAAA ALLIANCE PLUS LOWER-TIER ALLIES. DESPITE INITIAL DESIRE AND STRONG PERSUASION ON THE PART OF KAZEHAYA, SAWAKO ENDED UP SIDETRACKED BY PARENTAL INTERFERENCE. AFTER PREPARING GIFTS FOR A QUICK OPERATION AT THE PARTY, MORE INTERNAL CONFUSION WITHIN THE KURONUMA HOUSEHOLD LED TO THE UNAUTHORIZED REQUISITIONING BY SAWAKO’S FATHER OF ONE HM-2009-4 KNIT CAP INTENDED FOR KAZEHAYA. AFTER KAZEHAYA MADE WIRELESS CONTACT WITH KURONUMA RESIDENCE, SAWAKO MANAGED TO PROCEED AS PLANNED, NOW EQUIPPED WITH HER OWN WIRELESS CAPABILITY CARE OF HER FATHER. ONCE ON SITE, THE GIFT EXCHANGE PROCEEDED. ALTHOUGH WITHOUT THE KNIT CAP, KAZEHAYA HAPPILY RECEIVED AN HM-2009-3 HARAMAKI. ALTHOUGH SAWAKO DID NO INTEND THIS GIFT FOR HIM, HE GLADLY ACCEPTED, BELIEVING IT TO BE A NECK WARMER.

After the touching conclusion of the Chizu Arc, the series gives us an episode of some lighter material centered around the cute and rather awkwardly funny events of Christmas. As Shinmaru discussed in his post, Kazehaya really got into gear this time around. Taking a cue from the Earth Federation’s assault on the Solomon Space Fortress, Kazehaya launched a massive offensive leading up to Christmas, being direct and not giving up in his attempt to convince Sawako to come to the party despite her parents’ annual tradition of spending Christmas together all day. Kazehaya has shown some willingness to stand up for his love in the past, but never before with such determination and consistency. Perhaps he’s been taking lessons from Ryu, who basically only needed three episodes to get his relationship on track. Whatever the case, he was persistent in school, took the initiative to talk to Sawako at home and ask her mother to let her attend the party, and was even prepared with a gift. Furthermore he waited as long as it took for Sawako to show up late and was very smooth in delivering his gift, attaching it, and swapping phone numbers, followed up well by his happy, smiling acceptance of the ‘neck warmer’ that Sawako mistakenly gave him. With only three episodes left he really needed to go all out. Let hope he keeps up his ‘Charging Love Heart‘ efforts. And with Kurumi spotted in the next episode preview, he’ll need to be on his game in case the malcontent decides to pull an Operation Stardust in her refusal to accept defeat. The parallels are eerie. Kurumi, much like Gato, Delaz, and the rest of Zeon were soundly defeated, went into exile for some time, but still lurk out there. Though Kurumi and the Delaz Fleet lack/lacked the capacity to win, both have the ability to cause much damage and hardship before being ultimately destroyed. Should Kurumi decide to selfishly set up a martyrdom scenario for the fulfillment of her own ego as Gato did, she could cause a great deal of problems for the Sawayakyaa Alliance. Though perhaps if she does we’ll get a second season where Sawako goes all Titans on her ass.

Next week should also see Sawako’s birthday celebrated unless the show is going to go day by day for the next three episodes. I hope it involves a Morita Twister Game.

Crusader’s Record of Kazehaya War II

Part of me wishes that they made this one St. Patrick’s Day themed though I don’t think that they can get drunk stupid on Guinness. Still Sawako’s dad is a piece of work sadly for him his competition in the form of Kazehaya has him beat down and were he not Sawako’s father I would be baying for his blood over his dick moves. I was shocked and appalled when he took what he assumed to be his gifts earlier than Santa proscribed, but I suppose it worked out in the end as Sawako did have a Christmas with a friend. Kazehaya had better start entrenching on his newly won ground. Kurumi is about to launch a counterattack in a last ditch and vain effort to force her way back into his attentions. Sawako’s handicrafts are truly a marvel perhaps in the coming battle she can build a mecha with parts IN A CAVE. As Sawako was gifted with a mobile phone all is forgiven as now Sawako can exchange messages with Kazehaya. As Sawako is having confidence issues I guess that we can only hope that Kazehaya uses this party as a springboard for a massive offensive to earn Sawako’s unhindered love.

I still lament this heretical treatment of the Great Capitalist Holiday that is Christmas.

Yes and let’s leave together!

Wait why are Sawako’s fantasies in VHS?

If only…

Don’t confuse love with fear now ya hear…?

Y0u sir not only lack a beard but also the girth and jolliness.

Too bad Sawako lacks that cool of a shoujo dad.

Hand made…eh? the best i could manage was macaroni art.

:3

Bad feeling have I…

This is what Kazehaya would look like…IN HELL.

Yeah that was kind of scary…

Though he still ruined Christmas…

It is the thought that counts but I wonder how much thinking you have been doing as of late Mr. Slow.

That is so not hand made…

It’s all in the manual…

ExecutiveOtaku’s Unadulterated Adoration of Sawako and Current Intelligence Report

EO’s DAAAAWWWW of the Week: right off the bat with the cute this week, Sawako daydreaming about the Christmas party.

Oh, shut down! Jo needs a good verbal beatdown, he can’t even be an entertaining loser like Initial D’s Itsuki.

Christmas cosplay.

Daaaammmmmnnnn. Santa never looked so good.

A good gift, but it’s not good to tempt fate by doing what Minmay did one fateful Christmas.

“Pretty cunning, don’t you think?”

Another possibility for a handmade gift.

Scarily adorable.

Sawako has activated her Berserker ability. She’d make a better pilot than half the cast of SEED.

Daaawww, in it’s own way.

“Understand me?! This is going to be the best Christmas ever!”

She has control.

Looks like Yui-okaa-san still practices her music from her K-ON days.

Kimi ni Todoke continues to deliver with the beautiful visuals. The snow falling as Sawako and Kazehaya meet might be my favorite scene yet, visually.

Excellent move by Kazehaya. Not only does he wait, but waiting in the snow out in the open gives him that ‘he waited the whole time for me?’ look.

This show is just an overdose of great visuals for me. The snow coming down with the yellow light from the streetlight, the blue/black darkness and the way they blend together,  I can’t get enough.

Hmm. A honey-colored background and a clover cell phone charm. Perhaps Kazehaya has been reading up on Honey and Clover for romance tips.

Neck warmer, haramaki, whatever. It’s still made with love.

FLASH: TO ALL ALLIANCE MEMBERS – KURUMI HAS BEEN SPOTTED, INTENT UNKNOWN. ADVISE ALL ASSETS REMAIN ON ALERT UNTIL HER INTENTIONS CAN BE DISCERNED. REPEAT KURUMI ACTIVITY OBSERVED IN VICINITY OF EPISODE 23.

We definitely need more Kurumi in this Love GahROOvee… Her saga was the most entertaining (for me, at least), and it would be a waste not to hear Aya Hirano’s nagging voice again! =P

Daaaammmmmnnnn. Santa never looked so good.

AHHHH BAY-BEEHHHH… LOOVE NEEVAAH FELT SO GOOOOOOOOOD!!!

She’s coming back, but it remains to be seen whether she’s going to be a threat or if she’ll just be around to pout and tease. We must assume her intent is hostile until proven otherwise given her track record.

Looking back, Sawako’s dad is cheap as hell. After all that talk of splurging and all she got was a simple dumbphone? This is worse than shopping with Chizuru!

LOL. Seriously, you can get that kind of phone for 1 yen when you sign up for a year in Japan. Three years ago my friend picked one up that looked almost exactly like Sawako’s when she signed up for her student plan (of course if it were in the US you’d probably pay $60 for the thing…) Chizuru being so broke was surprising too, especially since she works at her parents’ shop now and then. Japanese people are loaded, at least the college students and adults I know, what gives?

the snowing scene is my favorite scene from the whole series as well. it was so beautifully done. from the phone call leading up to it, to her running in it, to her realization that Kazehaya was waiting there.

Indeed. As far as emotional content my favorite is probably still the Chizu X Ryuu scene on the dock, but this one comes close and is somehow even more visually impressive.
