Kimi ni Todoke episode 23 – Full-Spectrum Dominance

SENSITIVE INTELLIGENCE REPORT – RESTRICTED DISSEMINATION

SUBJECT: 1. DEPLOYMENT OF NEW ALLIANCE CAPABILITIES AND METHODS.

……………2. COMPLETION OF OBJECTIVE CODE NAME “BEST END” MOVING ALONG SMOOTHLY.

DATE: MID MARCH 2010 (25-31 DECEMBER 2009.)

1. PREVIOUSLY ACQUIRED COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS ARE NOW OPERATING WITH BETTER THAN ANTICIPATED EFFECTIVENESS. FURTHERMORE AYANE HAS ACHIEVED TOTAL SUPREMACY OVER HER CLASSMATES AND HAS TEAMED UP WITH CHIZU AND POSSIBLY RYU TO PLACE SAWAKO AND KAZEHAYA IN AN OPPORTUNE POSITION. COMPLETING THE FULL-SPECTRUM SHOUJO DOMINANCE STRATEGY IS THE EQUIPPING OF SAWAKO WITH SEVERAL BISHOUJO-CLASS UPGRADES.

2. USING MISDIRECTION, AYANE AND CHIZU HAVE SENT SAWAKO AND KAZEHAYA TOGETHER TO THE LOCAL SHRINE FOR NEW YEARS FESTIVITIES. TOTAL SURPRISE WAS ACHIEVED WITH BOTH TARGETS AND THEY ARE NOW EN ROUTE ALONE TO A MOST ROMANTIC SNOWY NEW YEARS/SAWAKO’S BIRTHDAY.

The semester comes to a close with Sawako receiving the last of her Christmas gifts and the school holding its closing ceremony. While a couple of the boys talk about how Sawako got to the afterparty, Ayane quickly interrupts to confuse them as to why Kazehaya met up with Sawako beforehand. She continues to impress with her duplicity in service to good, giving Sawako and Kazehaya some breathing space before any friendly teasing sets in. Later some old faces show up: the absentee homeroom teacher Zen has one last homeroom while admitting that his absence was due to him helping to run his wife’s sake brewing business, likely a much more lucrative job than high school teacher if salaries are anything like they are in the US. Only briefly Kurumi ‘Vichy-tan’ Ume shows up, now so thoroughly beaten that she resorts to childish facemaking. Oh how the mighty have fallen, brought low by her own failed schemes!

Not long after getting her cell phone, Sawako is already making great use of it at the insistence of Ayane and Chizu. The three go out to dinner and help Sawako set up her email address, Sawako.not.Sadako.1231, and then gently nudge her into calling Kazehaya to invite him along for a group New Year’s visit to the local shrine…or so it seems. Ayane continues to earn her Oberstein Order of the Velvet Glove, setting up an elaborate plan to get Sawako and Kazehaya alone together over break. Under the guise of a comfortable group visit, she gets Sawako to call Kazehaya herself. Then, at a predetermined signal, Ayane and Chizu break off and head home, leaving Sawako to meet Kazehaya alone. What’s more, shortly beforehand the two schemers take Sawako aside and outfit her with a  new look for her surprise date with Kazehaya. While I prefer the cuteness that is normal Sawako, or even soccer-supremacy twin tails Sawako, the new fashion-unit equipment is a nice change of pace. Much like the Strike Gundam, Sawako is adaptable and able to use a variety of forms to suit the situation. Kazehaya is either trying to play it cool or is just shy again when the two meet, but it’s clear that the power of Sawayakyaaa has overwhelmed him. All looks set for a most DAAAAWWWWW-worthy finale next week, though I hope there is time for a bit of Chizu X Ryu resolution at the end as well.

Crusader’s Record of Kazehaya War

Well it seems that Zen is nothing but a gold digging jackass whose irresponsible ways led to the rumors of Sawako’s ability to curse people. Suffice to say I hope his wife sees him for the duplicitous man that he is and divorces him. On the Sawako front she has finally gained a cell phone of her own and is well on her way to being connected. Gotta love how Yano baited Sawako into asking Kazehaya for a group night out only to alter the situation into a date. Ume has fallen to new lows and I take great joy in seeing the disparity that now exists as Ume the cute has been vanquished by Sawako Mk II Yano-Yoshida Custom. Words cannot begin to describe how radiant and darling Sawako looked with a little polishing and refinement by Yano and Yoshida. If Kazehaya is not sufficiently overawed to act now and declare his undying love then it is going to be a while before true love favors his cause. Kazehaya is most fortunate that Sawako did not show up to school like that for I am sure many a boy would work hard to earn the affections of someone as radiant and intelligent as Sawako. Nevertheless Kazehaya has been granted Sawako’s first dayto, he better not waste it. I have my doubts that this will lead up to a first kissu, but it would nice if Sawako allows it. Still much cuteness is sure to ensue and Kazehaya needs to remember that every moment with Sawako Mk II Yano-Yoshida Custom is a GIFT, and the fortune favors the bold, but slaps the foolish.

So glad you made it, I am so happy you can stay…

You two will have so much fun together…

Even in her all natural form she still looks better than Kurumi…

How far Miss Pretty and Cute has fallen…

Great minds think alike…or at least good friends think alike.

Not like they got much else going on to be honest…

DO IT!

You did it…since it didn’t kill you I trust you can do it again.

Happy Birthday Sawako…I hope you get a kiss from you know who…

Got Tissue?

Indeed for it is launch time for Sawako Mk II Yano-Yoshida Custom, I have great faith in this Sawako variant.

FYI they’ll be following you discreetly of course…

Dolled up Sawako is so much more Radiant that Ume… So Sawako ball up your fist until IT IS GLOWING RED…AND IT”S LOUD ROAR TELLS YOU…TO GRASP HAPPINESS!

So now Kazehaya…do you still feel like dawdling? If she went to school like that you might get a whole lot of competition…

Surprising to see what can happen with a hairpin and a new hairdo…not that I am complaining of course.

If Kazehaya is disappointed then he’s dumber than I thought…

ExecutiveOtaku’s Unadulterated Adoration of Sawako and Current Intelligence Report

She has the POWER!!!

Good to know that Scary Sawako has not lost its effect, even on her father.

The ancient Romans often looked to birds for signs and portents of the future. This is surely an auspicious sign, a pair of birds as a couple, one shaking off some snow as if to shake off the lingering awkwardness and hesitation.

Some sort of enka song? Sawako really is the bancho that the legend speaks of. Though I am saddened that we didn’t get to hear more of ‘Sawako sings the best of Yakuza film songs.’

Mmmmm, Ayane is a lovely sort of devious.

It is a pretty oojisan sort of style.

“Your attempt at glory, O Ume, lies slain in your halls./How the mighty have fallen!/Tell it not in THAT, proclaim it not in the posts of this blog,/lest the bloggers ExecutiveOtaku and Crusader be glad,/lest the followers of True Love and Friendship rejoice.”

Happy DAAAAWWWWWW.

The Sawako faces this episode are such a cute overload.

Muahahahaha!

I loved the constant, rapid-fire ‘desu’ ending to everything Sawako said, complete nervous over-politeness.

Phase one complete.

Sawako’s end of season upgrade.

Sawako is too pure and naturally beautiful for such lowly cosmetics.

The last thing Kurumi saw in the alternate NICE BOAT ending.

Well played, Ayane. Especially impressive that she managed to let Chizu in and still maintain OPSEC. Not even a hint out of her the whole time.

Sad Kazehaya in snow.

It’s good stuff, probably the most amount of cute in one episode this entire series, especially in chibi face form!

Indeed. I’m still more a fan of regular ‘Sadako hairstyle’ Sawako, but Ayane and Chizu did a great job there. Though I’m pretty surprised that Chizu knew enough about hairstyling to help out there, her own is pretty simple and she’s much more of the sports gal, as opposed to Ayane who seems to live for fashion.

    Sawako’s cuteness almost killed me…

This episode was dangerously cute, from her joy over the cell phone to the stuttering phone call to the makeover and date setup, with all the chibi faces inbetween.

I can’t decide whether to be happy or sad that this series is coming to such an awesome conclusion. Perhaps I can be both.

I’m not thinking there will be a second season, so the ending will probably be satisfying and full of daaawwwww. Though I would love a second season that follows Sawako and Kazehaya as a couple, but so very, very few series actually chronicle relationships after they’ve started.

The chase is usually the most exciting part; who wants to see Shota and Sawako work things out?!

Watching mature anime relationships is only fun if intrigue and dorama are involved.

It’s the most dramatic part, but I’d really like to see them together as a couple and seeing how they work out as a couple. While it wasn’t perfect, I did like that aspect of Itazura na Kiss.

Though I’ll acknowledge that most people will agree with your opinion over mine.
