To Aru Kagaku no Railgun – 23: GO NUTS!

Yeah we didn’t expect a lot of things to happen in this arc, but at least there was mecha…

Well they finally did it, Telestina is unmasked and the final boss and while there is mecha action and an BIG FIGHT to boot the revelation was poorly executed. In terms of story telling they are pretty poor at managing time, release of information, and foreshadowing. Even that new age hippie Kawamori seems to have one up them years age when Grace was revealed to be Super Dimensional Villain and mecha pilot. Telestina’s grimacing was rather meh in comparison as Telestina maintained her impeccable image until this 180 she did here. I cannot help but see Telestina as the next successor to Grace though Telestina seems to have less grand ambition and puts less into her nefarious scheming. Still at least they put more effort into robbing Telestina of all sympathy than they did with the long winded lectures in the previous episode. As jarring as Teleistina’s heel face turn was it did result in a BIG FIGHT involving a lovely suit of power armor and a grenade launcher. Hopefully Round 2 will see Telestina work out her calibration problems and a strike team will land on the Forest Moon of Endor to deactivate the Capacity Down before Round 2 begins. I liked mild mannered Telestina but this mad crazy mecha Telestina also works fine too. I guess there was a point to the fillers with Yomikawa and Tessou as they migt have a role to play in the BIG FIGHT that is about to happen. Not sure how Dorm Super is going to take part but I would most welcome the braking of a few necks it if helps her deal with being an unmarried widow.

Glad to see that Saten-san forced a make out up session to patch things up. Uiharu was annoying as expected but when it finally came to an end after a Kuroko Slap, truth be told I was most satisfied. Uiharu being useless had dragged on for longer than it needed to an while Kuroko was obligated to apologize as a polite gesture I find it hard to fault her as Uiharu wasn’t doing anything to help. I was disappointed in how they didn’t show how Mitsuko came to the rescue despite her friction with Kuroko she isn’t all that bad and is still a level 4 so she has to be useful in a fight. Hopefully Mitsuko will show her stuff when the BIG FIGHT happens in the next episode. The most persistent problem with the series isn’t that it is lacking when it comes to comedy and action, but rather the way the pace things and their nasty habit to condense the plot into lectures and dramatic turns. It’d be fine if they took more time to hint at future arcs even if they were a bit far away, Telestina going batshit insane was just the latest and probably worse example of what they did wrong. On every other front they did fine even if they got creative here and there with the source material or lack of it. Still for a winter with limited mecha it was most joyous to see Telestina in her new power suit dish out the pain. Hopefully this final arc will go out with a bang and Touma free, because it would totally suck if Spikey-kun were to save the day after all this build up for he Railgun cast. I just hope Mii-chan doesn’t keep her red jacket zipped up the whole time, it’s way too small for her. Despite how it all ends I think Kuroko comes out on top for being the most multi-talented Railgun heroine, for all her faults she has resolve and maturity that are beyond her years. Biri Biri might have the raw power and is the level 5 but can do a lot dumb things (all of which are forgivable as they stem from faults of experience and not of personality), she’s learning but when it comes to brains it seems that Kuroko has the edge.

Yes even my own tactical assessment of your little infiltration was most negative.

Kuroko knows her so well…

Indeed as events would prove that a dramatic 180 would occur that no one could have forseen.

Kuroko knows all the right things to say…

Amends will have to be made at Kuroko’s direction of course…

Saten-san was most eager to go have her three way…

Oh I see…ashame they did not animate Biri Biri and Kuroko’s moment of tenderness.

Just remember to back it up…

I choose…Magikarp.

Surely you jest for even Grace showed more hints about her intentions…

Telestina might not be on Grace’s level but she too can fight…

O RLY? I did not hear a fat lady sing…

Even Saten looks like she has had enough of weepy Uiharu…

LIVE SUBJECTS! PRISONERS! TORTURE! HIS DOING?!

How about stopping the water works there Uiharu…

YES!

While not as brutal as the Katie Punch or the Bright slap Uiharu still deserved it…

Fun time with swim team…

Just look at those sexy curves…

Your treachery was abrupt and poorly executed but that is one lovely suit of power armor you have there…not that you aren’t darling yourself.

Please tell me you killed him for that…

Much more elegant than that walking tank her mooks move around in…

Well she did copy Mii-chan’s home work…

You say that now but we shall see…

My Telestina what a big mouth you have…

It’d weigh less you invested in more compact high capacity hard drives…

I’m gonna violate you…

Do you feel lucky?

i’d be more than happy to re-sync it for you…

Of all the SPARTANs Telestina-075 was the only left handed one…

She has no fear for she has rebounding health…

GET SOME!

So she is of the Dark Yuri…

Too bad Telestina is villainous and hardworking…

Who is the dumbass now eh?

Mitsuko might no have a shotgun or a wrench but she has plasmids…

Do not come between Mitsuko and her being FRIENDLY with Biri Biri…

Hey were you in Black Lagoon?

You might need to give him some rope to follow your orders…

Dr. Gekota as punishment for not using your influence you have to listen to Mitsuko’s tall tale…

Hold on there Kuroko needs to heal your wounds…

A pretty lady with a flower in her hair…

In life and in love…

Amen Saten-san, Amen…

Kuroko will apologize but she was justified…

Looks like Biri Biri triggered Mistuko’s flag…

They were most displeased at how abrupt this change was…

Would be cool if they were headed for District 9…

Kuroko was hoping her onee-sama would have learned a thing or two about recklessness…

Biri Biri is so transparent…

Now Kuroko just because you don’t like her now doesn’t mean you can’t learn to love her…

Hey when it’s time to fight you better not choke…

If only she grabbed her hopes and dreams like Grace did…

At the very least get to third base with Uiharu…

I find this review amusing, especially right after reading the review on episode 22. So disappointing, isn’t it?

I must say I was surprised Telestina is a Kihara. That’s one frakked up family of mad scientists. Given her Kihara middle name her uncle , Gensei’s son, was the one responsible for making Accelerator the sociopath he is today.

I beleive this is the first time we encounter a fully adult Esper, not a student. If that drug is what I think it is it would backfire on her as it has severe side effects.

Purple power amor makes her look like a Mardook Meltran powered suit with a head.

I sure did not see it coming either, makes you think that this was almost an ass pull…

I am sure any use of drugs is cheating and we all know what happened to those level upper cheaters…

Maybe Telestina is a Macross Fan in general and a Grace fan in particular, certainly Telestina has much in common with Grace.

Lol this was the most entertaining Railgun episode for a long time even if it didn’t make sense.

Good to see Telestina has adopted the new purple power suit instead of using the mech with the ridiculous pink paint job.

Indeed her new mecha is so smechxy just look at it, it’s a work of art. As jarring as it was at least they didn’t try to squeeze in two lectures on what is going on.

Damn, my fears about Telestina suddenly becoming evil have been realized. Well, at least she got a cool power armor out of the deal. The design reminds me a lot of the Aestevalis from Nadesico, just much smaller. And it is good to see some smaller, ExoSquad-sized mecha for a change.

The Kuroko Slap was well deserved, Uiharu has been on a short but high speed downward slide ever since the height of her glory in the ‘limiter-off’ episode. Saten may have made Kuroko apologize for it, but having that skill at such a young age will only ease her commission into the Railgun equivalent of the EFSF. And if she can expand her teleporter ability to encompass an entire mecha, she could just as deadly as Iolaous from Heroic Age. Hmmm, wait. Teleporters? check. Psychics? check. Mecha? check. Perhaps the future depicted in Heroic Age is the future of the Railgun/Index universe.

Your right, I always felt that Kuroko must be of the Heroic Tribe and, of course Biri-biri of the Golden Tribe.

That said, I kinda saw the whole Telestina going over to the dark side early. There was just no one else who really fit the bill for ‘Big Evil person of the Arc’.

      Harumi Kiyama had her chance….

I don’t like this anime trend of the hot, mature, glasses women being the blatant bad guy.

Hear, hear! We need more hot, mature, glasses women as good guys, like Katie Mannequin-Colasour. I’ll let Grace O’Connor go since she was so good at being evil, her only mistake was to not kill Ranka immediately after seizing control of the Vajra ‘throne.’

More generally, it’s rather annoying to me that the mature, reasonable adult characters are so often the blatant bad guy or suddenly changed to be bad guys. If Chairman Durrandal hadn’t done a 180 at the last minute in Gundam SEED Destiny that show would have been a lot better. I will gripe about this until the day I die.

It is indeed sad to see that women of outstanding quality are vilified by jealous immature brats of lower intelligence.

I prefer to think that Railgun is the future world of Canaan and that Kuroko is the love child of Alphard and Liang Qi. perhaps Heroic Age occurs after and Kuroko is the founder of the Heroic Tribe, but her successors simply forgot her legacy of Truth, Justice, and Love for Onee-sama.

Telestina’s mecha may not be as awesome and cool as Grace’s VF-27 Commander type, but it has it’s own merits, and certainly it is much more useful in urban environments. Hopefully we will see more of what it can do later.

You’d think capacity down in it’s improved state would be mobile. Hell integrated in a power suit. Instead it’s a huge tower on the parking lot….
Though i don’t share your hate for spikey kun. (i’d even dare say i liked the episodes with him the best, especially the fight where he “loses”). I agree that it would be lame for touma to come in and save the day. like being a capacity down shield or something. Luckily the title “dear my friends” suggest it will be a team effort.
Also i’m not very familiar with high heels but that usb stick was rather flimsey i’d say.

Oh yeah finally some long waited action… but as I mentioned earlier, last 2 episodes, last 2 episodes – and all is solved. That mecha part was good also and to mention how this all mecha stuff was inserted into this anime but those big tube-head mechs were not cool : | , so to an end yeah Saten crack their skulls with that baseball bat, go girl ><
