Applications are now CLOSED. Thank you and we will get back to you soon!
Friends and readers, we are currently seeking new writers for the blog. After speaking to my superior (non-commissioned) officer and obtaining the imperial seal of approval from His Royal Trappiness, I have been authorized to open up the application process for the purpose of adding one to two new writers for THAT. We’re looking for Men and Women of Destiny with BURNING PASSION for anime who are looking to join our team and add their voice to THAT. Mecha gearheads, yaoi obsessed fangirls, shoujo lovers, slice of lifers, and everyone in between are welcome. You’ll have free reign to choose the types of writing you do. If you want to write episodic entries, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re more into editorials, THAT has a place for you as well. Rather write about manga or visual novels or doramas? Go right ahead. First time writers and experienced bloggers are all welcome to apply.
Would you like to know more?
Impz: Also, hijacking the post by EO by telling all applicants to re-read the entry again, as I have updated the post on the details.
Following this section will be Impz’s official recruitment procedures and criteria, but I thought I’d put in a word here first. As the newest active writer here at THAT, I can assure you that applying and getting started here isn’t nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be. So don’t hesitate to give it a try. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes either; I made some myself when I first started, but the other members of the team helped me correct them quickly. We welcome all prospective bloggers, though please understand that we won’t be able to accept everyone. But depending on the responses to this call we’ll be adding up to two new members to our team, and I look forward to meeting our new bloggers. I will be handling the majority of the recruitment process, up until the applicants are put before a vote of all the writers. So if you have any questions, feel free to email me and ask.
Impz’s guidelines are fairly general, so include whatever you think might be relevant. That could be a list of your favorite anime, what you watched in recent seasons, any experience you have with blogging, what other interests you have, or anything you feel better represents you as a potential blogger.
Impz’s preface to T.H.A.T Recruitment
I decided to add a page here for all readers of T.H.A.T who might be interested in writing for us. We always welcome applicants everywhere, and it is always my goal (Impz) to allow more talented writers into our group. However, I must add that we do not accept everyone who sends us an email, but it does not mean you are not good enough. It is just that you are not a good fit for us. On the contrary, we take great pride in this blog (at least I do) and we want to make sure that anyone who is making an application to this blog knows what they are getting into.
Why join T.H.A.T?
1. You do not have to deal with the whole creation of a blog and wonder about how to even start one.
2. We are an anime blog that does have quite a few eyeballs reading our entries. On current readership, we have an average of 2800-3000 visitors everyday. Writing for us will mean that you do not have to bother about finding readership. There is already a decent loyal readership in this blog, all thanks to the loving commentators and readers who have continued to follow us.
3. You do not need to bother about administrative and blog templates. You can just focus on your writing.
4. You do not need to feel stressed about writing. This is a team blog, which means there will be people blogging all the time. Of course, we will love it if you write at least one entry per week. We prefer writers who are constantly trying to contribute to the success of this blog.
5. You already have a ready group of writers in T.H.A.T who will be willing to do collaborative posts with you rather than brainstorming entries on your own.
Basic criteria
So, do you have what it takes to be a blogger here? Other than the Hollywood-like looks, the hot bodies and sexy voices, we also hope to see…
1. Decent writing - We do not expect you to have sophisticated vocabulary, but we at least hope to see a decent level of writing that can interest any reader who is coming to this blog. If we are bored at your writing, will any reader find it interesting themselves?
2. Distinct voice- More than anything, we like to hear something different from an incoming writer. We believe in diversity, and we do not need to find another author that writes the same old stuff. We particularly welcome editorial writers, raw watching writers and writers who can bring something different to T.H.A.T.
3. Social interactivity- You must be comfortable replying to others, even the mean ones. We are no trolls here, and we want to see if you can handle the pressure. Not everyone can do it easily. We also provide counseling services. Executive Otaku will be in charge of it. By that, we mean he will be treating you very NICELY.
Submission of entries
Here is what is required of you in that email to thatblog@gmail.com.
1. Administrative matters – Please make sure you have “Applying to THAT Blog as a writer” as the subject in the email. Also, for your blog entry, please enclose it in a word document or Google Docs, and make sure you include your nickname in the file name.
2. An entry – We want you to submit an entry when you email us. This entry should be seen as your first entry that you will post on T.H.A.T. This is a test/gauge/requirement/examination of your writing skills and creativity. We also wish to see that you are able to structure your ideas in a way that allows the commentator to question themes in your writing.
3. What you wish to do in T.H.A.T – Of course, do tell us about your vision when you enter THAT. We wish to know what you want to write, the genre of writing (Episode summaries, editorials, manga, j-drama, k-drama, parodies) and the frequency of your posting. If you wish, you can give one or two paragraphs about yourself, to let us know you a little better.
Closing words
We will always reply within three days to inform you that we have received your application. As all new applicants’ entries will be seen by all active authors of THAT, we will take some time to inform you whether you are accepted or rejected. If you are rejected, please do not feel hurt because it always pains me to reject anyone.
All in all, let me thank you for reading this wall of text and I hope to see you around in THAT soon!

Starship Troopers! fucking yes

Oh indeed! It was THE first thought I had once I got approval to start recruiting.
Ooh new writers! Always exciting to see new writers appearing on established team blogs.
Looking forward to reading posts from the new writers!
@Caraniel and Kabitzin
Me too, I can’t wait to start going over applications and then welcoming our new blogger(s).
And now it’s your turn to welcome the FNGs…
And I need to start writing more =3
Tsk. Don’t you hate it when real life causes writer attrition in your favorite blogs?
Hehe, indeed. I’ve got ReverseVampire’s monthly posts to back me up, but I’ve been feeling a little lonely out on the front page since Crusader got deployed and Shokkeru has gone MIA the past two or three weeks, presumably with finals and final projects.
It’s a pity, but real life is always so much more important sadly. With a job, marriage and the evil ps3 slim, it’s hard to squeeze out time for blogging. In addition, no one likes to read or comment on what I write anyway.
Though to be honest, I really write whatever the hell I want now.
I can vouch for the fact that life all too often gets in the way of writing ^_^;;
I’d apply but there’s nothing I want to review currently, and I already spend time writing.
Still can’t wait for more writers.
Understandable. But yes, looking forward to meeting the new recruits.
Indeed. With the caliber of a lot of writers on this site I can probably already say I’ll like there posts.
Glad to hear that ^^
honestly considering this. i’ll see if i have time to whip up an article on something..
Cool, I’ll look forward to it!
Hmmm sounds like like fun!
Thinking of applying? Or interested to see who shows up? Fun either way, hehe.
@ foshizzel: You spelled ‘like’ twice in your comment.
I still wonder the reasons why no one comments on my posts. Especially ‘now’. So far, only one commented on my latest post.
More writers pls. The more, the merrier.
Maybe Uraboku isn’t for everyone? I only got one comment on House of Five Leaves 03-04, but I realize the art and tone of the story have been something of a turn off for many people.
Don’t worry bud, me too.
Ohh so I did , just blame the 5am posting lol.
hmmm…very tempting, is it ok for the first entry to be part introduction part retroblog or something to that effect?
That would be fine for the submitted post. Basically we want a post-length (and that’s up to you, some people write briefly, some like myself go OVER 9000 words per entry) writing sample where we can get an idea of how you write in terms of structure and style.
Eh, why not.
4 years in and I’ve got nothing to lose.
I’ll look forward to hearing from you!
Question, suppose one apply and the review they write may be of a similar style to that of other THAT bloggers. Would it be better to deviate from their original style and go for something more creative that would allow them to show their creativity rather than doing the style which shows some similarities to other bloggers though that style is likely what their most comfortable doing?
If your submission shows similarities to other bloggers in general, To what extent is acceptable?
Other than these two questions I have nothing to ask, I’m anxiously waiting for your response so I can begin my entry, Later.
You’re free to use a different style or one more similar to current bloggers. I pretty much adopted the style of Crusader’s posts when I first joined, just with my own changes and modifications. I did so because I really like his style of writing posts, but you or anyone else are under no obligation to write similarly. We do tend to prefer medium to longer posts though, so no ‘two short paragraphs and you’re done’ kind of stuff. For a minimum I’d like to see something like three or four well written paragraphs worth of total text. No real maximum, just don’t submit a 30 page paper, hehe.
So basically I’m neutral about formatting style. It’s more about content and having your own well-expressed opinions.
I KNOW THAT I’M LAZY! T_T
SEXTRANGE, YOU SEXY, SEXY MAN.
Write more!
Very tempting….i might go for it. I might have something i wrote up a long time ago. I sorta used to do this for my high school. Ah good times…
Well, if you think you can spare the time to blog at least once per week, I will be glad.
ill try joining i guess. maybe this is a once in a lifetime chance to be on the spotlight. heh.
That will be great. Do make sure you email the entry in a word document. Makes it easier for us to review it ^^
Oh you, impz :3c
Can I use Google Docs instead?
Good enough ^_^ As long as it is a document form.
I want someone to write about the angel beats episodes 0.0
I have been looking for another project to take up my time. Blogged before but not about anime. Will definitely throw my hat in the ring. Good luck to all entries.
Sweet. Do send your entries ^^
The rules really didn’t change much. It’s just formatting issues to make it easier for us. Sorry for the inconvenience caused ^^
No worries, it wasn’t a big deal.
Rules change, time to resubmit I guess.
Ah, the call for new writers. Reminds me of when I joined, back in the day…Ohohohoho~
Hahaha
. I haven’t seen you around, just as many others. Got to check out the new bloggers now. I feel so much like an old fogey at times
Haha, when I mean “back in the day,” I meant two months ago…XD
Well, that’s new enough ^^. I have close to 8 months of catching up who’s cool and who’s not around the anime blog community ^^
OMG new banners!
Much more coming soon. Need to get some time to do up a few nicer banners. @_@
I would be very tempted, however I have my own blog I deal with (not as big as this one obviously) and some other things going on. I have numerous articles/rants etc. on there though if the mods/leaders here want to take a look. My site is occasionally NSFW, just a friendly reminder.
Well, we will definitely appreciate it if you could actually write a new entry (or perhaps your latest blog entry) and send it through either a link, document, or Google Docs. It really makes it easier for us to have everything together, rather than trying to skim through various blog entries of yours. If that might be too cumbersome, you could always email us for another alternative that will be good for both of us. Do email us if you are interested, or you wish for more details. We can’t really decipher whether there is a strong interest through comments, and we see an email as more affirmative action
Not sure if I missed something, but whatever happened to Calawain?
Need a “where are they now?” feature of all the many writers that have contributed to THAT.
Good idea for a post, then eventually have a section on obituaries of writers. Good idea. I will do just that!…. if i can remember.
Not sure exactly. All I know is that he’s a full fledged lawyer now and must have either gotten bogged down with work or bored or something.
bah the almighty sader is absent! T-T hmm i wonder if i should take an unbalanced swing at this “blogging”. i really do need an outlet for all the anime i watch. @.@
Definitely you should. Give us time to transform you into Luke.
Sader: LUKE, I AM YOUR FATHER.
Kuro-rin: Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
I’ve always wanted to blog, but I can never think of anything to say.
Add college to that, and I think I’ll pass this time. Good luck!
Definitely. Glad that you made the effort
Well, just comment and discuss and have fun here. We will be more than glad for that ^^
I’m definitely interested in writing.
But my tastes in anime and manga are like so far off, plus I have very little experience in blogging itself; so I’m a little worried in what you guys might think.
The only way to find out is to submit an entry and let us decide
. We strongly encourage you to give it a try. ^^
Just submitted my entry – am very excited! Good luck to everybody, what have ya got to lose eh?!
We received your entry. ^^ Now to wait for EO to be back from vacation, and collate all the entries ^^
Gah…just sent in my entry! Scary… Good luck to everyone who applies and an early congrats to those who end up making it!
Why scary @_@??? We are pretty nice people. X_X. Got your entry~
In general,
However, this will really give us a huge headache on who to allow in. As much as we want to let everyone in, we do have a number that we want to allow into the blog.
Honestly, I am feeling troubled on who to accept or reject. Better write a proper and nice review on every single applicant to explain why they are rejected. Hopefully, everyone will be nice enough to accept our decisions.
Damn, Impz, you’re so nice it’s criminal. You probably have a horde of applicants, and to write a review for every one of them…damn, you’re too kind.
(By the way, did your comment get cut off? I just see the “in general” part, and then it just continues to another paragraph…)
Well, It’s really not being nice. Put yourself in any applicant’s shoes. Do you like to simply get a “rejected” email without giving you any explanation or perhaps give you some suggestions on how to improve your writing to be more suitable for T.H.A.T or perhaps when they start their own blog? I definitely do not want to be in those shoes because I will be angry at the reviewer for rejecting me without giving me the reason (which is similar to most job interviews). I think it is actually fair to provide some transparency to the reviewee, so even if we appear to be biased in our judgment, at least there is some form of closure.
Even though I am dreading the amount of time I need to spend in order to review every single applicant (yes, there is a horde of them), the truth is that I just cannot accept doing something that most bloggers and job interviewers would do since I don’t like that. If it’s just a bit more work to make sure that people learn a bit about their writing and have closure, I think it is a fair trade off.
Oh, I wanted to write something but I lost my train of thought
