Gundam Wing 41-45: Queen for a Day

Yes finally OP2 I still think this shot is still pretty good, though if only they had one with Dorthy and Relena…

Relena’s reign is not long for the world after Zechs declares the start of his Neo-Zeon movement. While the doves of the Federation mull over what to do Trieze forces Relena to abdicate so that he can lead the remains of the Federation’s military power against Zechs and his Zeke goons. Relena departs as Dorthy heads to space to join Zechs, however unlike Quess Dorthy’s motivations soon become clear and have less to do with misguided false love and spurned love. After letting Relena live, Heero is also on his way to space as he encounters Sally Po who has Heavy Arms in tow.

The White Fang sets out to annihilate the last significant portion of the OZ space force at Barge which puts up a decent fight though mostly because of modified UC GM 90mm SMGs that shoot lasers. Zechs steps in to turn the tide in the White Fang’s favor but Duo and Quatre try to speed bump him. It doesn’t do much good as Barge’s beam cannon does plenty more damage, but before they can hit another colony Zechs slices it in twain and thus the remnants of the OZ space force have no where to go. Back on Earth Trieze consolidates his power and forces but the stragglers don’t all make it and some resort to hostage taking in an effort to reclaim the Libra. Oddly enough it seems Lady St. Une and Nicol did make it out alive. Duo, Quatre, and Trowa free the hostages, but Wu Fei tries to be a one man army only to fail miserably and have to throw in his lot with Heero.

Back in space the pilots are re-united on Peacemillion which is a rather under armed battleship considering the overall lack weapons, it’s a glorified carrier with an actual complement of engineers which is pretty real robot as things go. Dorthy beats Relena to the Libra where she swears her fealty to the revival of Zeon, Zechs is pleased and basically makes her his number two while Quinze stews over being a useless person. Relena gets on board but her attempts to get her onii-chan to desist are in vain. Dorthy sees a CHANCE moment and whisks Relena away to a private room to do this and that to her. Unfortunately Dorthy is called away for some business before starting a night that went on forever and ever.

Zechs initiates a war of attrition against the Gundams and pushes them to the limit in an effort to defeat them before Trieze can muster a space force. Dorthy gets to command the mobile dolls in a match against Quatre, Heero foreseeing this forcible upgrades Sandrock to use the Zero System OS. Quatre wants to chicken out but Heero will not tolerate his lose and fail because Heero will have to take on Zechs. Eventually with the Zero System Quatre succeeds in defeating Dorthy who resorts to desperate measures to stave off defeat. Dorthy ends up disgraced and Quinze starts thinking that he is a military genius and wastes yet more mobile dolls on fruitless assaults on Peacemillion.

Hilde decides that being in the kitchen is for chumps and infiltrates the Libra to get the schematics without losing many Bothans. Hilde meets Relena and makes off with the data but the White Fang sent the Mercurius and Vayate with mobile doll OS and Heero and Trowa’s data to chase her down. Duo defeats both suits in the space of less than one episode.

Well that was a long setup for the CCA re-enactment in the last run. It’s surprising how much treachery yields as Trieze once again makes himself relevant and avoids teaming up with Relena in some sort of redemption. I do like the second OP Rhythm Emotion it took a while for it to show up, well past the half way point but at least it is there for the final stretch as the last card of treachery is played. Poor Dorthy fails to capitalize on her alone time with Relena as an honored prisoner of the ship but there were a few good unintentional yuri moments. I like how Heero had to resort to usin the Zero System to up Quatre’s combat power as Quatre is the least of the pilots that needs a mook gang to make him more effective. The Virgo II rush was a waste of Virgoes in hindsight but it almost succeeded in knocking Peacemillion out of the fight, it was basically Zechs’ attempt to make a successful Waterloo in trying to one up Napoleon at Ligny but this time he came off worse and didn’t knock out the threat before Trieze could roll on up with the remnants of OZ. Next time promises to be a CCA re-enactment that is pretty close in spirit.

For a second there I thought they were going to use projectile based weapons…

Yes Trieze finally got out of his no security prison…

Relena was kind of miffed that she had a very short reign.

Even if you had an election I am sure Trieze would win by a landslide.

Dorthy had a plan to stalk Relena post abdication…

Heero felt that making Quatre use the Zero System was the best way to mitigate Quatre’s lose factor.

While there is no correlation between Dorthy and Gato, Quatre was as annoying as Kou…

Now where were we…ah yes Miss Dorthy was about to toss Relena onto the  couch and…

Took them long enough to fix them.

Dorthy was most annoyed to have to baby sit the White Fang leaders.

Seems Dorthy did not manage to keep Relena from attracting female company…

Hilde thought about staying but she had a schematics to deliver and she didn’t want to end up deader than a Bothan…

Duo was surprised that Quatre had not died yet.
