I knew that Aquarion could get ridiculously campy and silly but this week they just took it to a whole new level. I am not sure how many people remember the Berlin Wall, or that Germany was divided along West and East lines prior to 1989, but if you did I hope you have recovered from busting a gut. It helps that the girls who live in “paradise” are living in the West while the boys are toiling away under a military dictator of sorts in the militarized East. They even went further my making the boys the embodiment of state power while the girls got herded into a religious nunnery. I see what you did there Aquarion crew good to know that they aren’t just going for cheap laughs all of the time. Not much world building went on this week as much of it was spent on high school hijinks which while distracting at least had me rolling on the floor. Also Amata seems to be growing some back bone while we learn more about why Mikono is the Cowardly Lion in a skirt.
While Zessica rather bold in her style of dress with cuffs for cuffs the rest of the girls side seems to be rather varied with retro 60s style fashion to something more contemporary to the outright bizarre with the girl who wore a pink bag over her head as if her team just had a win-less season. The same can be said of the boys as it seems less militaristic inside the class room with Cayenne being the sole outlier. That the girls aren’t always in their religious robes (while inviting us to imagine what is underneath) and the boys aren’t regimented in their dress at least implies a happy age of less doom and gloom. It lends a small sense of normalcy despite the fact that they are embroiled in a 12,000 year war. It works because at this point the Abductor attacks are just a fact of life and the people have decided to try and carry on as best they can. I really dig the way they designed the cathedrals on the inside they look like a cathedral while on the outside you start seeing a bit of an Islamic/Greek Orthodox style going with the domes and the minarets. That Berlin wall they go running through the middle is nothing like the original but I like the allusion nonetheless as it also highlights an enforced divide that makes little real sense.
I am glad to see that Amata is slowly growing a spine, I’ll accept that his fearful nature was a result of being ostracized and forever afraid that he was a freak of nature. Good to see him forcibly conscripted to a place where at least he will be discriminated against on the basis of his usefulness and not because he is different. His self-esteem could use a boost but at least his physical went hilariously well. I wasn’t even mad when Amata was about to give up on Mikono because he saved himself by listing a bunch of harem animu tropes about how Cayenne and Mikono were a destined pair going from blooded royalty, to osana-jimi, to sis-con. I don’t know why he loves Mikono but at least for a minute he was willing to stand up to Cayenne and vouch for her courage.
After all love will find a way if not Andy W. Hol will dig a way and make it happen. If there was ever any doubt that the Aquarion crew was capable of being sly and clever, one need look no further than Andy W. Hol who is an obvious nod to Andy Warhol of Campbell’s Soup fame. It wasn’t an obvious joke but it was inspired even if the Digger Brothers Andy and Amata made their way into paradise. Sadly for Amata he got a good long look underneath Mikono’s skirt to the point that Andy thinks that Amata is a raging pervert who has him beat hands down. To Mikono’s eternal shame though Andy got a good look at Mikono thanks to Amata, I expect much awkward bro-fisting between Andy and Amata.
While it is good that the Berlin Wall is no longer the big major blight of a symbol these days I am glad that resident Yuri Knight Mix is adamant that that Berlin never fall. To be sure the boys are dirty even Cayenne but this goes much deeper than that as Mix has a ready built walled yuri garden to rule because Berlin divides the school so well. Whatever pretensions Zessica may have had about Unions with boys her experience with Amata and Cayenne was for her underwhelming and at least that has lessened her drive to have another such Union. A terrible shame that Mix is not so forgiving as the only way to restore Zessica’s purity and honor is a night of Mix an Zessica that goes on forever and ever while doing this and that. Mix is doing herself no favors by being hostile and should try and get FRIENDLY with Zessica as they are after all comrades and need each other for the forming the F-Type Aquaria. I am sure Mix was just being overzealous in trying to throw Cayenne under the bus and not out to embarrass Mikono. At least Mix shed a bit of light as to why Mikono feels so cut off from Cayenne and how little they understand each other as they do not share the telepathic link that would normally be the case.
Maybe it was the endless parade of jokes but I found myself less inclined to call Mikono a coward and deem her Ranka’s successor. To be powerless is onething to be powerless when the rest of your family has element powers is something else and while I am sure that her family never did anything make her life miserable the resulting inferiority complex is understandable. Mikono’s family was destined to fight an eternal war in Aquaria but for her a life of service and defending humanity wasn’t going to be part of her destiny. I really want to know if Mikono can still scrape together some courage and assume the mantle that she thought she never could have if they find some way to unlock her potential. Time will tell I suppose, but it is pretty clear that for now she is in the front running for the Amata sweepstakes.
Speaking of the Amata sweepstakes I feel real bad for Zessica as she seems to try and enter but is likely doomed to fail. It’s not that fun of a shipping war if you have a sense of DOOM about Zessica’s chances. Then again I am not sure Amata is even worthy of her affections and I am really pulling for Mix to jump Zessica and have a pure love as a result. Even then it seems that Amata is completely fixated on Mikono to the point he embarrassed himself, Andy, Cayenne, and Donar with the Dogeza ORZ. I like my hot blooded shouting attacks as much as any man can but I admit they had me going there, and while I should be mad I was laughing too hard to be mad. It was almost Pineapple Cakey in trickeration though I do not feel nearly as dumb. If nothing else hopefully if the apologies are HOT BLOODED then everything else is too. I just can’t wait the use the line there is orz-ing and then there is DOGEZA ORZ-ing. Still it was “LOL WUT?” overload as the program crashed and Andy is going to give Amata a bro-fist to the face for ruining his chance to impress the ladies.
I am not sure what the bad guys are planning or how harvesting works in Altea but it seems that Altea is a Blade Runner type dystopia. Maybe humans are just plugged into Matrix or something, but I want to know what the point of harvesting for Izumo’s goons is. Also just what Jin is doing with the image of Sylvie/Alicia? Is Jin, Richard Bilrer’s evil clone? Also is Mikage birdman from Macross Zero? Hopefully we get more answers though with Kawamori pulling strings here and there you never know… and they don’t always make sense.
I have the nagging suspicions that this was Andy's bunk, I also would like to know who just got kicked off the Wall of Fame.

Well, for once I don’t approve of the resident yuri girl, as Mix ain’t likable at all. ^^
My guess is that the Berlin will fall at the latest in episode 11, but probably before. There’s more comedy in mixing the two classes.
And I am actually quite intrigued by the “bad guys”, who I think will turn out to have quite some good sides… although I could be totally wrong and they could be shoving those abducted people into their furnaces for fuel.
Mix makes no secret of not liking the boys, but let’s be honest they haven’t done much to earn praise with Dogeza ORZ. Mix is also the only girl who isn’t fangirling Cayenne so that counts for something in my book. Besides I think Mix called every guy out when it came to smut collections, so the pain is understandable.
Still I hate that Zessica looks like she is in for a horrible disappointment when she enters the Amata sweepstakes. Zessica certainly deserves better and of the remaining candidates Mix is probably the most acceptable as Andy’s loyalty can waver and romancing Cayenne is like romancing a stone.
As for the bad guys we shall see but certainly they seem a whole lot more crazy in head and ugh between Jin and Kagura they seem to think of women as property rather than people. That’s not a good thing in my book.
Well, we have to wait a bit how Cayenne develops. If first impressions were all to a character, our God Empress Sheryl Nome would not be in a good place for many viewers.
As for the bad guys… yeah, their attitude is currently deplorable. But as Jamie Lannister showed us, even horrific people can develop an honorable side. Of course that means that Kagura and Jin need a lot of kicking in the gonads to get there.
So Cayenne gets the benefit of the doubt and Mix doesn’t? As I recall Sheryl was quite abrasive herself…
Ugh Lannister? Really, come on man just because that sister loving one handed oath-breaker had a few goodie goodie moments here and there but still the only good Lannister is a dead Lannister and the only thing better than a dead Lannister is a dying Lannister who tells you where to find his mates.
As for Cayenne, being quite reasonable and cooling down considerably already at the beginning of episode three earned him major brownie points with me.
And for the Lannisters: They may not to be to your liking, but Jamie is a fine examplea of a bad guy trying to redeem himself. If redemption is not your piece of cake, that of course won’t resonate well with you.
The only way the Lannisters can redeem themselves is for Danny’s dragons to eat and roast every last one of them.

My best guess is that we will both get what we want in that regard: Jaime will do something hugely redemptive, but will still get roasted by one of Dany’s dragons.
As for Tyrion? Well, I suspect he will be one of the survivors. Given how he has disavowed his whole family, why shouldn’t he?

While Amata is Apollonius reincarnated I have a feeling about those wings on his feet. The only other Shadow Angel with wings on his feet was Futaba. The Shadow Angel child murdered in order to create the Assault Type Aquarions and modified Elements. It could be Amata is a hybrid like the de Alisia siblings Sirius and Sylvia. .
If we go by the ED there is the possibility Zessica is Celine reincarnated. While Mikono is Sylivia reicarnated I can’t help but feel she and Cayane inherited Reika’s spirit.
I rooting that Crea the loli at the op is likely the commander of Neo Deava and is in fact Rena 12,000 years later.
Time will help us sort out the reincarnation mess, but for now I have this bad feeling that Zessica is going to be in for a let down…
It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out given that Amata and Kagura seem to be made of similar yet different character aspects.
