So while the NFL Season marches on without me and I am reduced to pulling for Tom Brady and the Patriots due to my hatred for New York City teams (Go Bills!) Kawamori is going to be Kawamori in Aquarion EVOL. While a bit whinier in terms of cast at least it seems that we are in the thick of the fun part. I am no usually a fan of High School hijinks but they do a great job in EVOL where things are more over the top and Amata and Mikono’s self-doubt is kept to a minimum and show enough signs of proper progress on their road to redemption. We also get a bit of information on Donar who is the only known survivor of the last Aquarion incident and if given how he’s more machine now than man it very possible that his two partners did not survive that tragedy.
I am not sure how they are playing the triangle but it seems that Zessica is going to knowingly walk into her doom as it is clear that she is going to enter the Amata sweepstakes despite acknowledging that Mikono was the person Amata was apologizing to. We also get a few new introductions including Shrade who seems to be the top dog for the boys and has the ability to troll Cayenne just like Cayenne trolls Amata. I am glad that Amata is growing into his role more smoothly than I had anticipated as being separated from Mikono didn’t make him a baby and he’s not weeping over how badly Cayenne treats him. Andy is still Andy and at least he is still sticking by Amata despite his chagrin over the Dogeza ORZ.
I am unsure of when Shrade will make his first sortie but apparently he is the supposed to be the best of the boys, but sadly he’s a glass cannon and not worth risking against cannon fodder. Action wise this was one of the heavier episodes even if Gepard was largely shooting up un-manned units. Hopefully the enemy mooks will at put up a decent fight on their own and that their effectiveness wasn’t entirely based upon Jin inputting commands. Fudo Zen makes his debut along with another familiar face to force Mikono into to the fight. I just hope that this will be a confidence builder for Mikono since I’d rather not hear her plead that she is useless. As for the Abductors I am glad to see that they are making an effort to make their combat drones into more than cannon fodder, I was most pleased with the prospect of multiple variants of their standard drone platform. It gives the whole show a more Real Robot feel when I see different combat drones that are based on universal platform that suggests MASS PRODUCTION and interchangeable parts for ease of maintenance and logistics. I just hope we start getting combined arms too.
In the end it was both AWESOME and LOL. Any time you get a flying fist it is a great thing, and while I would prefer wireless guidance and a rocket motor Infinity Punch is still something to behold and all the more amusing that it smashed down Berlin after busting up Jin. Even better it complete one orbit of the Earth and then some. Still with Aquarion tearing the wall down I expect that the high school hijinks will increase exponentially as the boys and girls have their expectations smashed and awkwardness to ensue. Also it looks like Zessica is going to make her move while Mix starts fuming, so it will begin what I fear will be a lost battle for Zessica. This time though I think that they will avoid the Ranka scenario since Zessica and Mikono don’t seem to be on friendly terms and Zessica is blatantly going after Amata despite being fully aware that those two have history. I just want to see how much luck Andy is going to have. I also hope those boys and girls trading cards make an appearance at some point even though their value is about to plummet.
