Zessica might pull a Saten yet...
It was bound to happen at some point…and when it finally came I wasn’t bothered by it much. Kawamori was being Kawamori this week and he wanted to remind us all that he does have a screw loose and that he is still a new age hippie. I was probably one of the few people who tried to focus on other things than Zessica, glorious though she may be. Thankfully nakkidness was not the only thing on the menu as we do get confirmation on the schemes of the Abductors. So despite the rather oppressive atmosphere on Altair they haven’t completely abandoned decency to an extent. Their goal was as some of us conjectured to find a female element user that they hope can jump start their birthrate which had crashed.
While I can sympathize with their desperation this doesn’t change the fact that they have been killing women on a significant scale for some time now. Quite why they haven’t simply tried to slowly infiltrate Vega remains a mystery but my guess is that not everyone can pass through the dimension gate and survive. Hence why they use drones and remote piloted mecha to harvest people and why Jin and Kagura are so valuable as both can pass through. I get the sinking feeling though that Mikage is likely the one who killed off all the women on Altair and has his own agenda given how he wants Kagura to believe that Jin is out to steal his smelly woman. While Alicia has been kept in stasis and is revered I wonder why this is. Was it because she was the only one that survived the passage only to die shortly after? Or was she the only one to come through intact? That Altair seems to have some of her songs suggests that she might have been alive for a while, or they picked off her CD from a corpse during one of their harvests.
Still I guess that Altair needs a woman who is an element user though they have a very faulty way for determining who is strong enough to pass. Certainly other female element users have been sucked through the gate before so why hasn’t it worked yet considering that there had to have been stronger element users in ages past. I am not convinced though that one woman who can pass through the gate is going to solve their problems mostly because even if their Eve were to have more than one partner, you are still talking about a very limited gene pool. Still it may well be that there is no real solution and it was all a lie from Mikage, or that it all somehow makes perfect sense in Kawamori’s mind. Then again it might not be that big of an issue considering there is evidence that there was an Eve if our mitochondrial DNA is right. As mecha fights go things just got downright silly and I am not just talking about the nakkidness, because that Un-Guarded Attack was funny in and of itself. Leave it to kooky Kawamori to base a mecha attack on rock, paper, and scissors. It was stupid, stupidly brilliant.
Radius Gniss got a heavy armor upgrade but sadly it wasn’t armored enough to survive a stupid attack. I just wonder if this will be the end for Jin and if Izumo is going to get more desperate now that he might have to rely only on Kagura. Izumo is probably going to get even more desperate if Jin is dead, hopefully it doesn’t mean that he’s going up the harvest quotas. All things considered it seems as though Izumo has scaled back the harvests in an effort to identify their Eve rather than casting a wide net and hoping for the best. If nothing else since this is not a full on invasion and their motives seem borne more out of desperation than malevolence there is some hope for peace. Even if this is not the case maybe Sazanka is their Eve, certainly a world full of only men is the kind of place she would like to be so long as Cayenne and Shrade are forced to go to Altair as well.
On the shipping front is seems certain that Zessica isn’t simply toying with Amata and Yunoha is willing to enter the Amata sweepstakes. This doesn’t look good for Mikono but I am glad that her first combat outing was not an unmitigated disaster and that she did not put her own modesty before winning. I must say I hardly noticed how Mikono has changed from that spineless person that wanted to run away. Hopefully Mikono will gain more confidence and find out what her element power is. Andy seems to be making some headway with Mix though as at least now they can carry on a normal conversation and Mix isn’t just letting Andy stew when he has a problem. Jin really is more than just a casual fan of Alicia it seems, hopefully for his sake Alicia is merely in stasis and not dead. While Jin seems to have very particular tastes it’s hard to fault a guy who is loyal even in stasis or death. If he survives and Alicia lives then hopefully she won’t reject a rabid fan.
Next week looks to be a Mix-centric episode and I cannot be happier, I just hope that Andy makes the most of the opportunity.

I havent seen the show but seen your screen shot and read your post on the home page and its pretty funny resulting in me reading this page and viewing the screen caps, and i gotta say… FREAKING HILARIOUS. haha, i definitely have to add this to my list of anime to catch up on.

This was an incredibly episode.
But it quite subverted some of my expectations… as most Kawamori shows do. Jin getting killed so early? Didn’t see that coming.
So, about Altair. On one level, their problem is bad, they are looking at a complete wipe-out of their culture. OTOH, their way of doing something about it is horribly misguided. They couldn’t have found a better solution than invading another world, abducting their women and mostly killing them during the transport? I really don’t believe anymore that good things happen to those who survive but are found unsuitable for being their “Eve”. Altairs approach to their lifes is just too casual.
So, count me out from having much sympathy for them. Sending diplomats to work together to find a solution would have been the smart and more humane way to go.

not unless this other wolrd is a parallel world and is the ‘closest’ planet with ‘humans’ on it and maybe, just maybe, didn’t want to affect this world so kept physical contact to a minimum.
this is the most likely plot, imo, considering the synopsis for the show.
I hadn’t considered that Altair wanted to maintain quarantine procedures but I wonder what the vector will be assuming that it is more science than mysticism. Good catch.
Diplomacy might have been out of the question since other than Jin and Kagura no one else seems to be able to pass through. Moreover proposing that Earth send women through the gate that would likely kill them is not something that any people would sign on for. Fundamentally I think it can down to dying or harvesting, they are probably wrong but they are desperate and staring at extinction.
I suspect Sazanka’s ability is the ability to take photos of anything from anywhere, without a camera. Amata’s tearing style reminds me of Fudo when he used to open his long coat to reveal a shirt with a word on it.
I remember seeing a picture(looks like fanart) which has Mikono and Zessica switch clothing, Mikono wearing Zessica’s normal outfit and vice versa.

I’m pretty sure Kawamori is using Fudo as a vessel to express what he was thinking all along.
I am sure we will find out about Sazanka when her turn comes up but next week is Mix and that to me is more important. This isn’t the first time Kawamori put himself in his shows and it will not be he last… I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Given her photography talent and being a fujoshi I’m starting to suspect Sazanka is a gender flipped reincarnation of Jun. Think about it Jun’s ability is some photo graphical psychometry, he is also a hacker and lastly an otaku. Only in this life he became a fujoshi in Sazanka who would use her talents not only to satisfy her BL fantasy but have a little black market.
The Eve Altair are looking for is the strongest female Element that can survive and restart their race.

LOL Dunno. We only know just two who gender fliped as reincarnations. Scorpius who a boy reincarnated into Reika who was a female. Sirius who was the other half of Celiane. Rena though was Apollonius’ dog.
