Wakana is readjusting nicely to her new leadership and mentor role in the choir club, but Sawa’s determination to achieve her dreams leads her to foolishness. I had hoped that Sawa would have had a more solid plan on reaching her goals but it seems that she really did not think this one completely through. Truth be told, she would probably eat through her savings long before she saw the race track and her dad does have a point. Sawa needs to have a real job in order to pursue her dream and to be honest unless she starts shortening her limbs she should look at being a park ranger or into mounted police. The cruelty of it is that jockeys are of a specific body type and Sawa’s flirtation with anorexia and bulimia are reflective of known occurrences in reality where there is immense pressure to maintain low weight.

My reaction too.

When 8dayswithout me started recruiting people to blog an episode each of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon on her blog, Gar Gar Stegosaurus, I signed up to see what fun I could have with it. I’ve previously only watched approximately the first three minutes of the first season of the show before I dropped it faster than Zeta Gundam dropped bodies. And now I’ve watched the fifth episode of the show’s second season, for your (I hope) entertainment and because I felt that I needed a little more confusion in my life. I have not read any posts, MAL synopses, Wikipedia articles, or otherwise obtained any information about this show beyond those three minutes. So, without further ado, enjoy my review  interpretation of episode 05.

At least they didn’t break out the smoke machine…

Well between the weekend outage, two lost credit cards, a failed bid to buy a house, and a job rotation change I am certain that I am not dead though I do feel like a bit of a zombie. My woes however were nothing compared to the heartache Wakana had to go through. I wanted to know why she simply gave up on music and was so intent on fleeing from her mother’s legacy, and I got my answer. There is no way around it Wakana was a whiny brat when entrance exam time rolled around. I give Mahiru and her husband all the credit in the world for putting up with Whiny Wakana. At least Wakana understood how much of a crass little monster she was; sadly she took the lesson beyond a reasonable conclusion. Fortunately in this small town Wakana could not completely escape Mahiru’s shadow and even Shiho steps up with a nice little gift from the way back machine. It was a very nice touch to have a cassette tape bridge the gap between Wakana and Mahiru. We also finally learn that Megane Meanie VP’s name is Nao Takakura, now that Mahiru’s daughter is genki and a full participant again I wonder if Nao’s stance on the choir club is going to change.

Sawa had a need for steed at an early age.

So the Legend of Mahiru continues to grow as three singers from the West come to see Mahiru’s child. Not only does Mahiru have celebrity friends she also was responsible for a one hit wonder. Sadly it seems that Wakana is not too keen about trying to live up to her mother’s legacy. Certainly the pressure that her mum’s friends have put on her probably isn’t helping too much. Instead it’s Konatsu and Sawa who have been slowly teasing out Wakana’s musical return. Wein seems to be on track to raise Wakana’s flag given how they are erstwhile classmates in supplementary classes. I also have to hand it to Wein for a NICE tackle against a bicyclist. Yes, his attempt at a falsetto was a terrible mating call but risking life and limb to stop a stalker surely should have netted him some points from Wakana.
