Oh man so many posts to write these few days, but for Macorss Frontier I will make time. I was expecting a lot more combat this time around, but it was good to see that they didn’t just brush aside the fact that Ranka saw the Alto-himexSheryl kissu. As a set up episode goes it wasn’t bad and at least it looked like they were actually preparing for battle rather than scrambling off unprepared. It seems that RankaxAlto-hime has hit a snag while SherylxAlto-hime is gathering more and more momentum. I like how they use first part to give some few tidbits on how FTL travel is done to bring in the new comers and the forgetful. It’s a nice touch and doesn’t seem too complicated for a lay person to accept.

So apparently Mikhail is getting flustered over the fact that Alto-hime has earned the favor of Sheryl and Ranka. Clearly Mikhail wanted the Kabuki Princess all to himself. So Ranka gets scouted by a rather queer fellow and upon learning of this Nanase gathers up a fan club. It seems that Ozma finally gritted his teeth and let Ranka pursue her dreams while Alto-hime and Ranka seem to have new communications problems. Ozma seems to have issues regarding is precious imouto. These two need to reconcile soon because already Sheryl is becoming more of a touchy subject though I am not sure why Alto-hime needed to conceal the fact that Sheryl was also there. I just hope that he lied in order to protect Sheryl’s career from rampant rumors. By the way that café table was fucking awesome; I wish I could do that every time someone said something incredibly rude of daft. Nanase’s concept sketches were interesting though Mikhail was rude in suggesting that Ranka not exploit her DFC charm, number two fan my ass.

So President Glass finally announces that the Vajra exist and that Macross Galaxy is under attack. Ranka is visibly distressed and coupled with the potential loss of both Ozma and Alto-hime she drowns her sorrows in pocky and late night TV. I love her jimmies by the way. Clearly Ranka is paralyzed with fear and Ozma has to promise her that they will get out of this alive, but at least there is no mention of pineapple salad, yet. SMS is now drafted and will serve along side the regular military. Nevertheless it seems the Vajra were able to secure a beach head on the main colony vessel and their fleet has lost coherency. Their last transmission being from five days ago, things do not look bright. Sheryl puts on a brave face and insists that things will turn out well and that the show will go on. It was not quite on par with Dugout Doug’s “I shall return” but it was sufficiently galvanizing.

I like the fact that they were using those five days preparing to sortie out, stockpiling ammo, doing pre-flight checks, sending out recon patrols before the main sortie, and overhauling the primary systems and getting acquainted with them. It also seems that Jeffrey Wilder has a history of sexual harassment, so it comes as no surprise as to why he left. Fortunately for him Monica seems to have taken a fancy to him and doesn’t mind. I guess Monica’s old guy fetish is allaying the effects of Alto-hime magic. We shall see how long this lasts. I hope Alto-hime can work her his magic on Monica and end this illegal activity. Cathy Glass also joins the bridge crew creating another love triangle between her, Kanaria, and Ozma. Hopefully the presence of a fully grown woman will keep Wilder’s habits in check. Sorry Monica your worst nightmare is here, military regulations.

So Alto-hime says his good bye to Sheryl, while they both go into tsun tsun modes, I like that. I thought I was cute and somewhat touching, lots of blushing all around with Sheryl more than happy to see Alto-hime come to see her off and Alto-hime for trying to nonchalantly returning Sheryl’s earring. I hate to admit it but it seems that Sheryl and Alto-hime are really starting to hit it off given how they seem to connect on a level that Ranka can’t seem to get. Both of them loathe their home colonies for various reasons but neither one seems to dwell on it. Both look ahead toward their futures while Ranka remains a bit unsure. Sheryl handing over her precious earring to Alto-hime was sweet, sorts of binding promise for him to come back alive to return it. It was sappy, but it was my kind of sappy, that being yuri sappy. It also seems that the Macross team are having field day hammering in Alto-hime’s girlish charm as she he went dere dere for Sheryl. I can see why Alto-hime would be enamored with Sheryl given that she is not only hawt, but she is a strong woman, a self made woman. Sheryl has her moments of sharp and wit, while Ranka is more prone to clinging to him for protection. I am not sure what Sheryl sees in Alto-hime, but i suspect that she sees another kindred spirit who is pursuing his dreams. It also helps that Alto-hime is hawt prettier than most girls and can easily be teased due to his feminine looks. Besides he’s not one to kiss and tell nor has he given the tabloids all the racy details of their time together, Alto-hime doesn’t have her on a pedestal and I guess it has been a while since there was a person willing to slam her when she is in the wrong.

Don’t worry Ram Hoa we still love you…I am sure you can score at least one dayto with Alto-hime if you put your mind to it…
Sexual Harassment make Ozma MAD!
The final sortie did get me all fired up and I can’t believe Luca actually named his VF-25. It was good to see Klein-sama doing her pre-flight check it shows how much she loves her job. I hope that Klein-sama racks up more kills than Mikhail, you know just cause. The earring really does hammer home how much further along Alto-hime and Sheryl are while Ranka was still running about. I guess next time there will be a lot of fireworks and I sense that Ranka and Sheryl will make public their rivalry both professionally and over Alto-hime. Ranka has a lot of ground to cover if she is going to claim her Alto-hime. It’s sort of strange Sheryl and Ranka both lost their loved ones early and there will probably be a lot of parallels between their careers. Ranka is ascending, but I am not sure if Sheryl’s career is going to be in the descent. Sheryl’s creative juices have yet to dry up and her will to continue to career still shows her tenacity. Given how Alto-hime was pretty darn spaced out at school after his first kissu Sheryl has achieved local superiority at this point. I am surprised that Kabitzin didn’t tear apart Alto-hime;s aloofness during the announcement of Ranka getting scouted. I can see why Alto-hime would lie about the kiss given that Sheryl is famous and rumors would have snow balled into a professional problem given how Sheryl is still after all an idol and the public would have been interested in less that helpful ways if SherylxAlto-hime pictures started circulating. Secondly they are not officially a couple though given that they are both tsundere for each other such a proclamation won’t come until the wedding day. At least with Mikhail there is a shadow of doubt given his penchant for teasing Alto-hime. Granted that Alto-hime gave Ranka Sheryl’s ticket I think that Alto-hime is oblivious to Ranka’s true feelings, in fact I don’t think Ranka realizes just what precisely it is that she wants from Alto-hime.

In contrast to Sheryl, Ranka seems devastated by the fact the her beloved Alto-hime doesn’t see her in a romantic light and the fact that her hero, her idol is the one who is romancing Alto-hime. It’s going to be tough for Ranka to openly challenge her hero of many years, either way by series end someone is going to get hurt and its not going to be pretty by the look of things. Again Ranka is at the age when she is almost and adult, at least according to Ozma, and soon Ranka is going to have to vie for her career and her kabuki hime as a woman. As to whether or not she can make Alto-hime see her as a woman is another matter entirely. Thus far it basically has been a brother sister set-up between the two rather than hawt and heavy locker romance and close encounters of the awesome kind. If Ranka’s career is going to be in the ascent there is the possibility that she could end up haughty. Alto-hime seems to be more confused when it comes to women making humble faces we shall see if Ranka can fight for her Alto-hime.
Oh that’s not good.
And that was the last we saw them on any of our scopes, judging by the amount of damage we’ve sustained they must have been destroyed.

Whatever the case it seems that Shirukii, Shin, and die-hard Ranka fans are going to have to wait for Ranka to shine just as brightly on a dayto with the kabuki princess. Whatever the case I have no idea how this is going to pan out and eagerly await the episode. I can’t wait to see Macross Quarter in action. I like major fleet engagements; hopefully there were some survivors from Macross Galaxy. Though I wonder how things will turn out once Ranka starts singing. I am still at a loss as to what she was singing to Alto-hime back at the observatory. With this Ranka is starting to take her first steps out of her brother sister relationship and into something different, I just hope that Ranka hasn’t been left in the dust after the Sheryl blitz. I am really torn about who to root for on the one hand I do like Ranka for being green haired, loli, and genki, but on the other Sheryl has come a long way from haughty pop princess to a woman who shows vast reserves of strength and tenacity. Sheryl earned her place, no body gave her anything, and I can see why she is proud to the point of arrogance at times.
This earring glows with an awesome love. It’s sweet song tells her to seize him. Alto-hime hear her song!

On the Vajra front it seems that Leon i s aware of the Vajra and songs correlation though I have to wonder if Sheryl is the songstress they are looking for. Ranka seems to drive them mad, but it remains to be seen if Sheryl has the songs to soothe the beasts or if Ranka just needs to sing the right songs.

On a final note it was just magnificent how they worked in Diamond Crevasse into the episode. It made the whole fleet sortie seem more melancholy in the end. I trust that not every one who leaves will be coming back alive. If Sheryl wrote that song just for Alto-hime, Ranka’s is going to have to be that much better. If I beleived that Sheryl was leaving this ep I probabaly would have been near tears, but I know as well as everyone else does that Sheryl is going to be a permanent resident on Frontier for a while. It almost makes up for some of the more awful instances of bad animation, thankfully it was better where it counted. I just hope that they will make up for it next time.
Track them they might come around for another pass…

Nanase’s sketch was so hilarious and odd, but Mikhail adding the appeal was just too much. That table must be the futureristic equivalent of kicking someone under the table and/or clinking glasses.
Alto was being a real jerk this episode, and I’m not sure why he was so cold towards Ranka (which is why I didn’t tear into him). It was just too puzzling. Considering Alto already had a congrats-party, what is he so upset about? My only conclusion is that Alto has personally labeled Ranka as forbidden fruit and has cut off ties to her to avoid getting hit by an “accidental” missile from his 6 (shot by Ozma).
Klan Klein seriously needs a samurai-style banner for her Queadlunn!
Comparing to the previous episodes this ep was kinda lame if you ask me, only redeeming point of it was Sheryl´s concert. Beautiful.
Altoh(I just can´t stop ending it with an “h”) is a big fucking idiot here. But then again, maybe not so much, but there´s rivalry between Sheryl and Ranka and Alto seems to be a playboy, not wanting the other to know about the other one…

The only good thing about Alto lying to Ranka is that, the matter’s not finished yet. I’m sure someone here will realize he’s being dense or something. =/

Yes, I know that, but I was wondering about how her voice affects the Vajra. :p Sorry, I guess I didn’t make that clear. Her body seems to react more (like in ep3 when she couldn’t let go of Alto’s sleeve against her will) in addition to her dissociative amnesia. My impression is that her body remembers, but her brain does not. Something like that. It intrigues me.

Ricaryx: That is a quite normal behaviour actually. Given a terrifying experience you will maybe not remember it, but your body will. And given a situation those memories can come up which makes you feel really really bad.

They DID take away her real nii-san. Ozma stepped in as a replacement Nii-san after this.
Alto may be avoiding Ranka to avoid nii-san’s wrath (he admitted he was overprotective), or else he’s just VERY tsun-tsun… to the point where he ignores most women, even Sheryl. Hell, three episodes is how long it took before he realized she might even like him.
And with Cathy’s arrival on the bridge to fill up that last spot, Ozma’s death counter has just risen by a few points, especially with that promise. Good thing he didn’t notice Bobby wincing and scurrying away after he said that.
Again, call me a fangirl, but I noticed that the Galaxy fleet seems to be made up entirely of Meltrandi vessels.
Well, that Deneb-class Kaitos didn’t seem like a Meltrandi vessel – but that last ship in the preview looked an awful lot like an assimilated Meltrandi Attack Ship, and plenty of destroyers and gunships getting blown up in the transmission.
So, of course, they’re sending a gunship along with a few other forces.
I don’t think Alto is an idiot, he just doesn’t know Ranka likes him in that way. He’s too busy playing with paper airplanes. I don’t see him as a playboy at all. He didn’t look guilty about lying about being with Sheryl and he doesn’t really owe Ranka anything. But really how does Ranka like him? She doesn’t know either. Ranka is going to have to really grow to catch up to Sheryl’s level so far. Gotta stop clinging.

Yeah it seems the portents just keep coming for Ozma, the poor guy.
I guess that Alto-hime’s obliviousness is an indicator of how our princess is about ot fall in love for the first time. Given that the lout Mikhail seems to chase away all the girls at school Alto-hime’s inexperience with a first class tsundere like Sheryl comes as little surprise. Ranka however…it seems that Alto-hime treats her more like a kid in need of looking after rather than a love interest, that will change though.
I can’t wait for the big fleet engagement.

If that is the case, then it would seem to fit given how Sheryl describes it at as a more industrial fleet. It would be cheaper to just use some old Meltrandi vessels instead of building a new colony fleet from scratch. That would also mean that Galaxy has a greater proportion of Meltrandi, maybe they made it out of the siege in greater numbers. The Pixies could use a few more friends…

This episode was kind of boring and lame.The triangle is scrapeing.
Alto doesn’t know how to deal with his developing feelings for the two girls so he does the only thing he can:he ignores them.Ranka suffers , Sheryl suffers but for diferent reasons.
Ranka is just 15 , it would be odd to see her acting like Sheryl,and that would mean the loss of her childish side.She’ll catch up in beauty , intelligence,sharm and chimistry with Sheryl, but everything at it’s time. One thing is for shore , she is falling for Alto (for the first time, probably) and she does not know what to do or if it ‘s even good doing something.Since her voice is the one that ‘calls’ out the Vajra (or what ever those things are) I think that she’ll be the key to this mistery.I hope that she will be the one that gets Alto-hime in the end , but it’s a looooooooooooooooooooong way to go , because he doesn’t look to be interested in her enymore (in that way) and her rival is a kind of ”Miss Universe” and also her friend and ”hero”.
Sheryl (”young and sweet , only 17” XD ) ….well she is everything you can possibly ask for, but I still don’t like her as much as Ranka.
I’m going to virtualy kill Alto hime if he is going to glare at that earring all the time.

As dumb as Alto-hime is about love it fits in line with all their interaction thus far. It was less romantic when Ranka and Alto-hime shared the screen more of a brotherly affection cord was struck rather than the intimacy that Sheryl was using. Ranka is taking her first steps into womanhood so it should come as no surprise that no one not even Ozma sees her as anything more than a child, but again Ranka is growing up and she will be a woman, the trick is to convine Alto-hime that she is there.
